KOCHETKOV REMAINS UNDEFEATED TO START HIS CAREER
Pyotr Kochetkov made 27 saves for his first NHL shutout and remained undefeated to begin his career as he backstopped the Hurricanes (10-5-1, 21 points) to their 10th win of 2022-23. Carolina, which sits third in the Metropolitan Division, has required fewer games to reach the mark in a campaign only three times in franchise history (11 GP in 2021-22, 13 GP in 2020-21 & 2005-06).
* Kochetkov (23 years, 142 days) became the third goaltender in Hurricanes/Whalers history to record a shutout prior to his 24th birthday, joining Cam Ward (5) and Eric Fichaud (1).
PAGEAU POTS GAME WINNER FOR ISLANDERS AS BARZAL ADDS TO ASSIST TOTAL
Mathew Barzal (0-2—2) factored on the Islanders’ game-opening and winning goal – which was scored by former Senators forward and Ottawa, Ont., native, Jean-Gabriel Pageau (1-0—1) – to help New York (11-6-0, 22 points) improve to 9-1-0 in its past 10 games against Ottawa.
* Barzal (0-18—18) has yet to score this season, but his 18 assists rank third in the NHL behind only Nathan MacKinnon (20) and Leon Draisaitl (19). Only one player in Islanders history has recorded more helpers prior to their first goal of a campaign, defenseman Gary Nylund (21 in 1989-90).
BLUES, FLAMES SKATE TO COMEBACK WINS MONDAY
The Blues and Flames each skated to comeback wins Monday to earn their third and second straight victories, respectively. St. Louis and Calgary’s current success comes on the back of eight and seven consecutive losses, respectively.
* The Blues’ past three contests since ending their skid have included fending off three game-tying goals against the Sharks before posting back-to-back comeback wins versus the Golden Knights and Avalanche – the club is also 1-0 so far on the road during their mom’s trip. Jordan Binnington, who has been in net for each of those contests and has moved within four of his 100th-career win, made 45 saves – his third-highest single-game save total. The last St. Louis goaltender to make more stops in a road victory was Chris Mason on Nov. 25, 2008 (47).
* A pair of Flames forwards hit career milestones Monday as Jonathan Huberdeau (1-0—1) reached the 200-goal mark during the opening frame which saw Calgary score four – they are the only team this season to score four-plus goals in the first period multiple times. Meanwhile, Nazem Kadri recorded two helpers to reach 300 career assists in Calgary’s highest-scoring game in 2022-23.

The latest edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates was highlighted by Mikko Rantanen, who had 1-1—2 and boosted his home totals this season to 9-11—20 (7 GP). Rantanen smashed the Avalanche/Nordiques mark for fewest games to 20 home points in a campaign – a pace most recently matched by Nazem Kadri in 2021-22 (10 GP).

CAN STREAKS BE EXTENDED TUESDAY? TUNE IN TO FIND OUT
A nine-game Tuesday will put a number of streaks on the line, including the Devils’ nine-game winning streak, Mitchell Marner and Quinn Hughes’ assist streak, as well as a run of six straight victories for Golden Knights rookie goaltender Logan Thompson.
* Marner enters Tuesday with a nine-game assist and point streak (2-11—13), which trails only Leon Draisaitl (11 GP) and Connor McDavid (10 GP) for the longest active point streaks among all players. Only three players in Maple Leafs history have extended their assist streak to double digits, a list Marner is already on: Norm Ullman (12 GP in 1970-71), Darryl Sittler (11 GP in 1976-77) and Marner (10 GP in 2017-18).
* Hughes will aim to extend his career-high point streak to eight games when the Canucks visit the Sabres (0-9—9). Only 10 players in franchise history have recorded a longer assist streak than Hughes’ seven-contest run, with two of those being defensemen: Dennis Kearns (11 GP in 1976-77 & 8 GP in 1975-76) and Doug Lidster (8 GP in 1986-87).
* The Devils can become the first club in 2022-23 to record a double-digit winning streak with a victory against the Canadiens on Tuesday. New Jersey, which has earned victories in front of Akira Schmid, Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek within their current run, can become the fourth team in NHL history to post a winning streak of 10-plus games while using at least three goaltenders. They would join 1985-86 Flyers (13 GP; Bob Froese, Darren Jensen & Pelle Lindbergh), 1982-83 Flyers (10 GP; Bob Froese, Pelle Lindbergh & Rick St. Croix) and the 1972-73 Bruins (10 GP; Eddie Johnston, Jacques Plante & Ross Brooks).
* Thompson is 6-0-0 in his past six games and can surpass Linus Ullmark (6-0-0 from Oct. 20 – Nov. 3) for the longest run by a goaltender this season should he and the Golden Knights find the win column Tuesday. Thompson can also match Malcolm Subban (7 GP in 2017-18) for the longest win streak by a rookie netminder in franchise history.
