NFL Offseason Workout Program Dates Announced

0

NEW YORK – Voluntary offseason workout programs are intended to provide training, teaching and physical conditioning for players. The calendar for 2026 is below.

As per Article 21 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each club’s official, voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases:

Phase One consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.

Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as “perfect play drills,” and drills and plays with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk-through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.

Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.

Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that clubs may hold one mandatory minicamp for veteran players. This minicamp, noted below, must occur during Phase Three of the offseason program.

New head coaches are entitled to conduct an additional voluntary veteran minicamp.  Any voluntary minicamp for veteran players must be conducted prior to the NFL Draft (April 23-25), but no earlier than week three of the club’s offseason workout program and after at least one week of the two weeks of Phase One activities that the clubs may hold pursuant to Article 21. This year, 10 clubs will hold voluntary veteran minicamps, as noted below.

Each club may hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, which in 2026 may begin on May 11. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft. The dates of each club’s post-draft rookie minicamps will be circulated at a later date.

MLB Game Preview: St. Louis Cardinals (6-5) vs. Washington Nationals (4-7)

0

First Pitch is scheduled for 4:05 PM ET
Venue:
Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia (home for the Washington Nationals)

This early-season NL interleague series finale at Nationals Park pits a surging Cardinals club (fresh off a dramatic extra-innings win Tuesday) against a struggling Nationals team looking to avoid the sweep and salvage a homestand. St. Louis sits near the top of the NL Central, while Washington lingers near the bottom of the NL East with pitching woes mounting.

Recent Team Forms

St. Louis Cardinals (W2; strong in series):

Apr 7: Win at Nationals 7-6 (10 innings; Thomas Saggese go-ahead double, Jordan Walker homer; rallied vs. Nats bullpen).

Apr 6: Win at Nationals (exact score not detailed but series-opening victory).
Cardinals have won 4 of their last 6 overall and shown late-game resilience.

Washington Nationals (L2; 3-7 in last 10):

Apr 7: Loss vs. Cardinals 6-7 (10 innings; bullpen collapse after late lead).

Apr 6: Loss vs. Cardinals.
Nationals have dropped 4 of their last 5 and rank near the bottom in bullpen ERA (around 6.34 entering Tuesday).

Series History (2026 Season)

Cardinals lead the current series 2-0 after back-to-back wins, including Tuesday’s extra-inning thriller. Over the prior three seasons, St. Louis holds a slight edge in head-to-head play, with recent matchups tending toward competitive, higher-scoring games when bullpens are involved. This is the rubber match of the three-game set.

Weather Updates

Nationals Park (outdoor) forecast for first pitch (4:05 PM ET):

Temperature: ~50-55°F (cool for April; highs in the low 50s)

Conditions: Mostly clear/partly cloudy with light winds (~8-11 mph from the northeast)

Chance of precipitation: Low (~20-30%; isolated shower possible but unlikely to impact)

Humidity: ~40-45%
Cool temps and light wind should favor pitchers and suppress offense slightly—no rain delays expected. Fans should dress in layers for the evening chill.

Injury Report

St. Louis Cardinals (pitching depth thinned):

Hunter Dobbins (SP) – 15-Day IL (knee)

Matt Pushard (RP) – 15-Day IL (knee tendinitis)

Lars Nootbaar (OF) – 60-Day IL (heel surgery)

Ixan Henderson (SP) – 60-Day IL (elbow)

Victor Santos (RP) – 60-Day IL
Cardinals are relying on available rotation depth and a solid bullpen otherwise.

Washington Nationals (multiple pitching absences):

Joan Adon (RP) – Out (day-to-day or unavailable)

Paxton Schultz (RHP) – 15-Day IL (elbow inflammation)

Trevor Williams (SP) – 60-Day IL (elbow)

DJ Herz (SP) – 60-Day IL (elbow)

Josiah Gray (SP) – 60-Day IL (elbow)
Nationals bullpen and rotation are significantly depleted, forcing heavy reliance on available arms and potentially early hooks.

Key Player Matchups

Starting Pitchers: Cardinals RHP Michael McGreevy (0-1, 2.53 ERA, 0.84 WHIP in 10.2 IP; solid command and ground-ball stuff) vs. Nationals RHP Miles Mikolas (0-2, 14.46 ERA; facing his former team after seven seasons in St. Louis). McGreevy brings early-season effectiveness, while Mikolas has been hit hard (high xERA around 8+); expect the Cardinals to attack early.

Offense vs. Defense: Cardinals stars Jordan Walker (hot bat, recent homers and RBIs) and Thomas Saggese (clutch extra-innings hero) vs. Nationals pitching and defense. Washington’s CJ Abrams and emerging bats must generate runs against McGreevy after Tuesday’s bullpen meltdown.

Bullpen/Defense: Both sides are thin in relief—Nationals’ unit has been particularly vulnerable (ranked near league-worst). Late innings could favor St. Louis if starters exit early in cool conditions.

Betting Trends

Early-season road favorites with strong starters have performed well against teams with depleted rotations/bullpens.

Nationals are 1-4 at home and have covered poorly as underdogs lately.

Totals have leaned Over in recent Cardinals games but cool April weather at Nationals Park often suppresses scoring.

Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo select 22 players in WNBA Expansion Draft 2026

NEW YORK – The Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo began the process of building their inaugural rosters by selecting a combined total of 22 players in the WNBA Expansion Draft 2026 presented by State Street Investment Management SPY, the WNBA announced today.

“Today was an incredibly exciting day for Portland as we begin the roster construction ahead of the debut season tip-off,” said Fire General Manager Vanja Černivec. “Throughout this process, our priority was finding players who embody effort, selflessness, and a commitment to team success. Each player we selected reflects the culture of what we are building, and the style of play we want the Fire to represent from day one.”

“This marks the start of building the Toronto Tempo the right way,” added Tempo General Manager Monica Rogers. “We were deliberate in assembling a roster built on versatility, depth, and competitiveness. This group brings leadership, defensive edge, and scoring across the floor, and every player was selected with a clear expectation to compete at a high level, hold the standard, and help define the culture we’re setting in Toronto.”

* Denotes an unrestricted free agent, meaning that Portland and Toronto may designate the player a “Core” player, giving the team exclusive negotiating rights to her in exchange for an offer of a one-year, fully guaranteed contract at the maximum salary and/or may be the only team that can negotiate a supermax contract with the player.

As a result of separate trades made by Portland and Toronto with the Chicago Sky on Wednesday, both the Fire and Tempo agreed not to select a player from Chicago’s list of Unprotected Players.

Two players chosen in the WNBA Expansion Draft 2026 presented by State Street Investment Management SPY have won a WNBA championship during their career: Nyara Sabally with the New York Liberty in 2024, and Aaliyah Nye with the Las Vegas Aces in 2025.

The list of players selected also boasts 14 international players – Chloe Bibby, Nyadiew Puoch and Kristy Wallace (Australia), Julie Allemand (Belgium), Nikolina Milić (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Bridget Carleton (Canada), Nika Mühl (Croatia), Carla Leite and Adja Kane (France), Luisa Geiselsöder and Nyara Sabally (Germany), Kitija Laksa (Latvia), Maria Kliudikova (Russia), and María Conde (Spain),

The WNBA Expansion Draft 2026 presented by State Street Investment Management SPY consisted of two rounds with Portland and Toronto selecting from a pool of available players as determined by each of the other 13 WNBA franchises. Each of those 13 teams was required to submit a maximum of five players who were “Protected” and therefore not eligible for selection in the WNBA Draft 2026 presented by State Street Investment Management SPY.

With Portland having the first selection in the first round, and Toronto selecting first in the second round, the Fire and Tempo alternated selections in each round, having the right to acquire the player contract of, or the negotiating rights to, one player listed on the Unprotected List of each of the existing 13 teams. Portland and Toronto each had the option of selecting one player who is a “Potential Unrestricted Free Agent.

In the upcoming 2026 WNBA Draft presented by State Street Investment Management SPY, the Tempo holds picks No. 6. 22, 26, and 36. The Fire owns picks No. 7, 17, and 37.

Toronto will open the regular season on Friday, May 8 when it hosts the Washington Mystics. Portland will begin play the following day when it hosts the Sky.

IBIA reports 70 suspicious matches in first quarter of 2026

The International Betting Integrity Association identified 70 suspicious sporting events across 10 sports during the first quarter of 2026, according to the group’s latest Integrity Report released Friday.

Soccer accounted for the most alerts, with 25 cases — or 36% of all Q1 reports. Tennis followed with 16 alerts, while eSports generated 15. Table tennis produced seven alerts, volleyball two, and badminton, handball, cricket, MMA and basketball one each.

Europe recorded the highest number of suspicious events by region with 20 alerts (28%), followed by North America with 14. Asia logged nine alerts, while South America and Africa each recorded six. eSports, which is not tied to a geographic region, accounted for 15 alerts.

Brazil flagged as emerging hotspot

The report also highlighted a rise in suspicious alerts in Brazil, where regulated sports betting launched last year. IBIA data shows alerts in the country jumped from seven in 2024 to 25 in 2025. Between 2021 and 2025, the association recorded 68 alerts in Brazil, the majority involving soccer.

IBIA’s Brazil analysis forecasts that licensed sports betting gross gaming revenue could reach BRL 23.7 billion by 2030, with offshore operators projected to generate BRL 5.1 billion. Brazil reported licensed GGR of BRL 16.7 billion in 2025 and offshore GGR of BRL 4 billion.

The association said Brazil is positioned to remain the dominant sports‑betting market in Latin America.

IBIA previously released a full‑year integrity report covering 2025.

Michigan issues cease‑and‑desist orders to 45 illegal gambling operators

LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Gaming Control Board said Thursday it has issued cease‑and‑desist orders to 45 offshore gambling operators over the past four months for illegally offering online casino games and sports betting to Michigan residents.

The orders followed MGCB investigations confirming that each entity was accepting wagers or providing casino‑style gaming without a state license, a violation of Michigan’s internet gaming and sports betting laws.

The operators cited include buffalocasino.com, BetOnline.ag, SportsBetting.ag, Americas Card Room, Anonymous Casino, Winport Casino, Ripper Casino, LTC Casino, Regal Casino and Sportsbook, and dozens of others.

“The scope of this action sends a clear message: Michigan will not tolerate illegal operators targeting our residents or undermining the lawful businesses that have invested in complying with state law,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said in a statement. “This is an ongoing effort, and we will continue to take action against illegal gambling operators.”

The agency said offshore sites operate outside Michigan’s regulatory framework, leaving consumers exposed to unfair games, withheld winnings, misuse of personal data and no meaningful dispute‑resolution process. Licensed operators, by contrast, undergo background checks, technical audits and responsible‑gaming oversight.

Under Michigan law, any company offering online casino gaming or sports wagering to people in the state must be licensed by the MGCB. Entities that ignore cease‑and‑desist directives may face additional civil or criminal enforcement. The board said it works with law‑enforcement partners to disrupt illegal gambling activity.

Residents are urged to verify that any platform they use appears on the MGCB’s list of licensed operators and to report suspected illegal gambling by emailing MIGamblingTip@michigan.gov or calling 1‑888‑314‑2682.
