ABOUT THE A’S: Have lost five straight, 11 of the last 12 and 14 of the last 16…are 3-14 (.176) overall and have the lowest winning percentage in the majors behind the Royals (4-13, .235)…have matched the worst record in Athletics history after 17 games…the 1951 Philadelphia A’s and 1966 Kansas City A’s also started the year 3-14…the 1951 club lost game 18 to fall to 3-15…were swept in a three-game series by the Mets to start the homestand and have now lost each of the first five series of the season…the only other times in Athletics history the A’s lost the first five series of the season are 1935, 1946 and 1951…have never lost the first six series.

Revolution Sign Veteran MLS Defender Ben Sweat

Eighth-year defender with more than 120 MLS appearances reinforces New England’s backline

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have signed defender Ben Sweat to the club’s MLS roster. The eighth-year MLS defender, who most recently played for Sporting Kansas City, is signed through the 2023 MLS season, with an option for 2024, and will occupy a supplemental roster slot.

Sweat, 31, has made 121 MLS regular season appearances, with 106 starts, and has totaled 14 assists in league play. The Palm Harbor, Fla. native joins his sixth MLS club in New England, having previously suited up for Austin FC, Inter Miami CF, New York City FC, Columbus Crew, and Sporting Kansas City. Sweat signed with SKC ahead of the 2022 campaign and made 25 appearances over two seasons, with three assists, before being waived in April.

“Ben Sweat is an experienced defender in our league, and his arrival adds depth and versatility to our roster,” said Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena.

Sweat began his career with the Columbus Crew before excelling at New York City FC over three seasons from 2017-19. Sweat made 26 appearances in his first season win the Bronx and recorded a career-high six assists. In his NYCFC career, Sweat made 72 league appearances and saw action in 16 additional games in the MLS Cup Playoffs and U.S. Open Cup.

The defender has been capped twice by the United States Men’s National Team, appearing in a pair of October 2018 friendlies against Colombia and Peru. Prior to joining the pro ranks, Sweat starred at the University of South Florida for four years and still holds the program record with 78 collegiate appearances for the Bulls.

Orlando Pride Signs Forward Maliah Morris

Clemson product joins as an Injury Replacement Player; Julie Doyle placed on 45-day DL 

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Pride has added forward Maliah Morris to its roster as an Injury Replacement Player, it was announced today. Additionally, forward Julie Doyle has been added to the 45-day Disabled List following an ankle injury sustained during the Pride’s home opener against Angel City FC.  

“Maliah has worked hard during the preseason and we’re excited to see her rewarded. She’s a talented player who will be able to provide additional competition and depth to the roster, particularly over this very important stretch of games,” VP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Haley Carter said. “We’re sad to see Julie sidelined but are looking forward to providing the support she needs to get back on the field and continue with the strong start to the season she was having.” 

During her time at Clemson University, Morris received numerous accolades including 2022-23 All-ACC Academic Team, 2022 Third Team All-ACC, 2022-21 United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-Atlantic Region, and was twice named ACC Offensive Player of the Week.  

Morris joined the Pride as a Non-Roster Invitee during the 2023 preseason, appearing in multiple matches over the preseason schedule.

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Atlanta Dream have waived forward Beatrice Mompremier, the organization announced today.

Mompremier played 21 games with Atlanta in 2022, averaging 2.1 points and 2.8 rebounds. With UNI Gyor this offseason, averaging 13.2 points and 10.9 rebounds in 25 Hungary A Division and Eurocup games.

Los Angeles collected nine hits, but gave up 14 and continued a familiar theme from this early part of the season: The Boys in Blue are now 0-9 when getting out-hit by their opponent. As the six-game homestand (1-3) heads to its conclusion, the Dodgers will play the Mets in the middle game of the series tonight, before wrapping things up with an early 12:10 p.m. start tomorrow afternoon. Following the game tomorrow, the club will fly to Chicago and begin an eight-day, seven-game road trip against the Cubs (4) and Pirates (3), beginning with a 4:40 p.m. PT start on Thursday night at Wrigley Field. Freddie Freeman belted two home runs last night, his first multi-homer game with the Dodgers. SWEET AND SOUR AND SWEET AGAIN
• Began his Rockies career in 2022 with three-straight quality starts July 6-16, going 1-1 with a 1.45 ERA (18.2 IP, 3 ER) over that span … became the fifth Rockie in franchise history to record a quality start in each of his first three starts with the club, joining Joe Kennedy (four-straight, 2004), Jon Garland (2013), Jason Jennings (2001) and Bryan Rekar (1995).

• In his start on Aug. 24 vs. Texas, became the first Rockie in history to allow at least nine hits and nine earned runs in 1.1 innings or fewer, the 24th in Major League history (last: Mike Fiers, Sept. 9, 2021 at Houston; 1.0 IP, 9 H, 9 ER).

• Earned his first win as a Rockie on July 16 vs. Pittsburgh, tossing six scoreless innings in a 2-0 Rockies win … sixth time in his career tossing at least six scoreless, the first time since July 29, 2018 vs. Washington.

• In 17 starts with the Rockies, posted seven quality outings and allowed five or more earned runs four times.

BREW CREW
• Was signed by the Brewers to a Minor League contract on March 29, 2022 and had his contract selected to the Major League roster on March 30.

• Made four relief appearances with the Brewers in April before being designated for assignment on May 2 … cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Minors on May 9 … refused his Minor League assignment and declared free agency the same day.

• Was scoreless in two of four relief outings, allowing a combined five runs (three earned) on seven hits across 7.2 innings (3.52 ERA) … walked five while striking out three.
