THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
• Tonight’s matchup is the first of two games Seattle will play against Columbus this season. The two teams will next meet on March 3 in Columbus. The Kraken are looking for their first-ever win against the Blue Jackets.

• Yesterday’s game against the Flames and tonight’s game against the Blue Jackets is the Kraken’s fourth back-to-back set this season. The team will play in eight total back-to-back sets this year, and this is the only one of which both teams will be at home. The Kraken have a 2-1-0 record in the second game of a back-to-back set this season.

• The Kraken have not allowed a power-play goal for six consecutive games, going a perfect 15-for-15 during that span. If they were to remain perfect on the penalty kill tonight, it would set a franchise record for consecutive games without allowing a powerplay goal. As of 10:50 p.m. PT on Jan. 27, the Kraken were one of two teams (Washington) to remain perfect on the penalty kill since Jan. 16, the start of the Kraken’s streak.

• With 48 games played, the Kraken have already surpassed their win (27) and point (60) totals from last season.

• Since the start of the New Year, the Kraken are leading the league in wins (10, tied), points (21), goals (57) and goals per game (4.07). They are one of only two teams (Edmonton) to be averaging four or more goals per game in 2023.

• Despite only playing in 47 games this season, the Kraken are the first team to have scored at least eight goals in a game four different times since the Pittsburgh Penguins also has four eight-goal games in 2011-12.

SILENCING THE CANNONS
• Ryan Donato has six points (two goals, four assists) in five career games against the Blue Jackets.

• Jordan Eberle has three assists in his last three games against Columbus.

TODAY’S GAME
SABRES AT WILD
• This is the second and final meeting between the Sabres and Wild this season.
• Last meeting: Buffalo defeated Minnesota 6-5 in overtime in Buffalo on Jan. 7, 2023.
• The Sabres are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games against the Wild; 7-3-0 on the road.
• This is the 29th game all-time between Buffalo and Minnesota; Buffalo has a 14-13-1 series record.
• The Sabres are 9-4-0 on the road against the Wild all-time.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
• The Sabres have earned at least one point in each of their last six road contests, Buffalo’s longest road point streak since the team earned at least one point in six straight road games from Jan. 22 to Feb. 22, 2018.

• With a point in tonight’s game, the Sabres will have earned a point in seven straight road games for the first time since the team did so from Feb. 8 to March 6, 2011.

• Buffalo has earned wins in each of their last five games and a win in tonight’s game would give the team their second winning streak of six or more games this season.

• The last time the Sabres earned two winning streaks of six or more games in the same season was when the 2005-06 Sabres won seven consecutive games from Dec. 4 to 19, 2005, six games in a row from Jan. 24 to Feb. 7, 2006 and eight games in a row from March 3 to 16, 2006.

• A win in tonight’s game would give the Sabres their second four-game road winning streak this season.

• The 2009-10 Sabres were the last Sabres team to earn multiple road winning streaks of four or more games. They won four consecutive road games from Oct. 10 to 28, 2009, Nov. 27 to Dec. 14, 2009 and March 18 to 29, 2010.

• Owen Power has registered a point in four consecutive games, including one goal in each of his last three.

• A point in tonight’s game would make Power the first Sabres rookie defenseman to record a five-game point streak since Rasmus Dahlin notched a point in five consecutive games from Jan. 8 to 16, 2019. With a point tonight, Power would join Dahlin, Phil Housley, Calle Johansson, Tyler Myers and Nikita Zadorov as the only rookie defensemen in franchise history to record a five-game point streak.

• With a goal in tonight’s game, Power would extend his Sabres record for the most consecutive games with a goal by a rookie defenseman and would become just the third defenseman in franchise history to score a goal in four or more consecutive games (Dahlin, Oct. 13 to 22, 2022; Phil Housley, Nov. 22 to 30, 1988).

• Rasmus Dahlin has recorded 38 points (7+31) in his last 33 games, including seven points (1+6) in his last five games

• Alex Tuch has notched 43 points (16+27) in his last 33 games, including nine points (3+6) during his current seven-game point streak.

• A point in tonight’s game would give Tuch an eight-game point streak, which would extend the second-longest of his career and his longest with Buffalo.

• Tage Thompson has recorded 17 points (7+10) in his last 13 games and has recorded at least one point in each of his last six games.

• With a point in tonight’s game, Thompson would earn a point streak of seven or more games for the first time in his career and surpass his previous single-season career high in points scored (68), which he set in 78 games in 2021-22.

• Dylan Cozens has tallied 35 points (13+22) in his last 35 games.

• Victor Olofsson has 11 points (10+1) in his last 12 games.

• In his last 27 games, Jeff Skinner has notched 36 points (15+21).

• Skinner is riding a six-game point streak and a point in tonight’s game would mark his second point streak of seven or more games this season and the fourth of his career.

INTO THE WILD
• Rasmus Dahlin has tallied 10 points (4+6) in six career games against Minnesota, including seven points (2+5) in his last two.

• Dahlin’s 1.67 points per game played against the Wild is his highest against any team in the NHL.

• Victor Olofsson has notched four points (3+1) in four contests against the Wild in his career.

• Casey Mittlestadt has recorded six points (1+5) in five career games against Minnesota and a point in tonight’s game would give him a point in three consecutive games against the Wild.

• Mittelstadt is a native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

• Dylan Cozens has registered three points (2+1) in three career games against Minnesota.

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight, the New York Islanders host the Vegas Golden Knights in the second and final matchup between the two clubs this season. The last time these teams met was December 17, 2022, at T-Mobile Arena. Brock Nelson and Zach Parise each tallied a goal and an assist, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau recorded two assists to help the Islanders earn a 5-2 win in Las Vegas. The Golden Knights last visited the Islanders on December 19, 2021, a 4-3 shootout decision in the Golden Knights’ favor. The Islanders have collected points in their last three straight matchups against the Golden Knights. Tonight’s matchup finishes off the Islanders’ busiest month on home ice in their 2022-23 regular season schedule, and is the last game before their bye week and All-Star Break. It is their eighth contest at UBS Arena in the last 19 days. The Islanders also finish off their tenth of 15 back-to-back games they will play this season. It is the only time in the 2022-23 schedule that the Islanders will play both ends of a back-to-back on home ice. They enter tonight’s matchup 5-3-1 on the back-end of back-to-back games.

BOUNCING BACK
The Islanders snapped a six-game winless streak last night, as they blanked Eastern Conference foe, the Detroit Red Wings, in a 2-0 decision. It was the first time the Islanders shut out the Red Wings since December 13, 2013. It was the Islanders’ first win since January 14, and they collected their 24th win of the season as they outshot the Red Wings 28-23. Brock Nelson’s third-period tally broke an 11-game streak in which the Islanders had been held without a goal in the third period.

PENALTY KILL
The Islanders have killed 30 of their last 31 home-ice penalties. The Islanders enter tonight’s matchup 90.9% on the penalty kill at home, leading the NHL. Since December 4, they are 96.8% on the penalty kill at UBS Arena, allowing just one power play goal in their last 12 home games. Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield leads the Islanders and is fifth in the NHL in shorthanded time on ice this season. He has skated 156:46 on the penalty kill in 51 games this season.

Henderson got its seventh conference win of the season against East Central, defeating the Tigers 66-61 inside the Kerr Activities Center. Ashley Farrar led the way scoring 25 points off the bench, followed by Abbie Jiles, who had 12.
