MLS Preview: Orlando City SC (1-0-1) at D.C. United (1-1-0)

0

Orlando City SC was the only team that D. C. United was able to defeat twice in 2022. D. C. United won both of its matches against Orlando City SC last season. In eight MLS matches against the Lions since the start of the 2018 season, D.C. has a record of W5 D1 L2, equaling its most victories against any opponent during that time (5 in 11 games against the Crew).

On Saturday, D.C. United lost 2-0 at the Crew, following its 3-2 home victory over Toronto in the season opener. Since last season, D. C. United has scored and given up at least twice in each of its last three home games. This only happened once before, in July-August 1997, when it happened in four consecutive games.

After securing four points from two matches played at home, Orlando City will play on the road for the first time in MLS in 2023. Mateusz Klich created seven chances for teammates against the Crew on Saturday, equaling the most by a player in a match this MLS season and tying the most by a D.C. player since the beginning of 2020. The Lions lost their final four road games of 2022, including the playoffs, after only losing three of their first 14 road games last year (W5 D6). In May 2019, current manager Wayne Rooney was the last D. C. United player to make more chances in a game.

Orlando City SC has hit only two shots on track through two matches this season, remembering its punishment objective against the Red Bulls for matchday one. Even taking into account teams that have only played one match, Orlando’s non-penalty xG of 0.57 ranks among the lowest in MLS this season.

Boxing Preview: Tim Tszyu (21-0-0, 15 KO’s) vs Tony Harrison (29-3-1, 21 KO’s)

Tim Tszyu will fight for the WBO super-welterweight world title in Australia on Sunday, March 12, leading Australian-based boxing promoter No Limit Boxing confirmed.

Tszyu, 28, will attempt to win his maiden world title on home soil in his first fight back in his native Australia since defeating Japan’s Takeshi Inoue in November 2021.

‘The Soul Taker’ continued his training camp in the USA in preparation for a title fight following the postponement of one of the biggest and most anticipated fights on the 2023 boxing schedule, Charlo vs. Tszyu for the undisputed championship of the world.

WHAT TIME IS TSZYU VS. HARRISON?
Date: Saturday, March 11
Start time: 11 p.m. ET / 4 a.m. GMT
Main event ringwalks (approx): 2 a.m. ET / 6 a.m. GMT
The fight will take place at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.
Showtime will broadcast the fight in the U.S
The main card is set to get underway at 11 p.m. ET / 4 a.m. GMT with the main event ringwalks scheduled for 2 a.m. ET .

American Tony Harrison is the former WBC super welterweight world champion. He is also the only fighter to have defeated Tszyu’s previously-planned opponent in current undisputed champion Jermell Charlo.

Ranked No.2 by the WBC and No. 3 by the WBO, Harrison has a record of 29 wins, three losses and draw with 21 of those victories via knock out. His last fight was against Spain’s Sergio Garcia in April 2022, winning by unanimous decision.

The 32-year-old from Detroit has always embraced the idea of facing off against Tszyu in Australia, telling reporters last year, “I want to go to Australia. Take me on a vacation. Let me travel across the world and fight somebody that ya’ll want me to fight, I’m cool with that…”

“Let me see the kangaroos and rattlesnakes and s–t like that, I want that. I want to fight him, but I want to fight him over there.”

In a winner takes all scenario, the victor on March 12 is set to secure an undisputed title fight against Charlo, once the champion recovers from his injuries.

Tim Tszyu said, “I think Australia is going to erupt. I haven’t fought for almost a year and half in back home and I know it’s going to be the biggest show yet. It’s a massive fight for Australia and a special moment in my career. I have so many passionate fans supporting and following me, so I guess he will feel a certain craziness about the atmosphere in Australia. But his biggest problem he’s running into isn’t the fans, it’s me.”

“Every fight you take is all on the line, you’re one punch away from going back to the very bottom. It’s all on the line and a gamble, but this is what I do. This is boxing, it’s part of my career and I’m a fighter first.”

“He (Harrison) was the next best available option. I’m at that stage of my career that I really don’t care who is in front of me. I’m ready to take them all out.”

No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose said, “Mark your calendars everyone because Tim Tszyu finally gets his shot at becoming world champion on Sunday March 12, right here in Australia.”

“I visited him in the US for his training camp, so trust me when I tell you he’s ready to take over the world by any means necessary. He’s in the best shape of his life, fighting back home for the first time since 2021 and hungrier than ever. It’s going to be one hell of a show.”

“Tim also knows this won’t be a walk in the park. He has a very, very dangerous man in Tony Harrison in front of him. Harrison is the only man in the world to take down the undisputed champ in Jermell Charlo, so it’s a massive risk for him.”

“It’s hard to believe that it’s been two-decades since fight fans last witnessed a Tszyu world title on Australian shores, but we don’t have to wait much longer. We’ll look to announce which city and venue is set to host this blockbuster event very soon.”

Venue and ticketing details will be announced in the coming weeks.

SATURDAY: Tony Yoka-Carlos Takam Heavyweight Showdown to Stream LIVE on ESPN+ – Streaming action from Paris begins at 2:45 p.m. ET/11:45 a.m. PT

BOXXER has today announced a blockbuster co-promotion with French promotion All Star Promotions in Paris next month.

‘Super’ Dan Azeez will take part in huge international contests at the Zenith Paris – La Villette on Saturday, March 11, with the event being broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK and Republic of Ireland and on Canal+ in France – with a third, bonus BOXXER bout to be announced later this week.

WHAT TIME IS TONY YOKA VS. CARLOS TAKAM?
Date: Saturday, March 11th
Main card: 8 p.m. GMT / 3 p.m. ET
Main event ringwalks (approx): 11 p.m. GMT / 6 p.m. ET
The fight will take place at the Zenith de Paris-La Villette, Paris XIX, Paris, France
Sky Sports will broadcast the fight in the UK, while the fight will be available to stream live on ESPN+ in the U.S.
The main card is set to get underway at 8 p.m. GMT / 3 p.m. ET with the main event ringwalks scheduled for 11 p.m. GMT / 6 p.m. ET.

Azeez (18-0, 12 Ko’s), the main light-heavyweight warrior in history to win the English, English and Region titles, makes the following stride on his own central goal to turn into a world title competitor as he challenges for the empty EBU European Light-Heavyweight Title.

Thomas Faure, a former French national champion and former European light-heavyweight champion (21-4-1, 2 KOs), will square off against him during the 12-round contest. Prior to the match, Faure was undefeated in eight contests.

In December of that year, Azeez defeated Rocky Fielding in Bournemouth, completing his ascent from English to British and Commonwealth champion with four stoppage victories in his previous five fights. Azeez sees the European title as the next important step on his inexorable rise to world championship contention. He is determined to proceed methodically.

Dan Azeez stated, I have always wanted to be a world champion, and I believe that winning the European title will help me get there. I’m looking forward to the fight and doing a lot of training.

Two Olympians will fight in the main event: Cameroonian Carlos Takam (39-7-1, 28 KOs) and European heavyweight champion Tony Yoka (11-1, 9 KOs).

Since becoming a professional wrestler in 2017, Yoka, who defeated Joe Joyce to win the gold medal for France at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, has established himself as a formidable competitor on the European professional circuit.

His only defeat thus far came against highly regarded heavyweight Martin Bakole, who earlier this month signed an exclusive promotional agreement with BOXXER as he prepares to challenge for the world title in 2023. Bakole is currently ranked No. 1.

Ben Shalom, CEO and Founder of BOXXER, stated: We are thrilled to begin working with All Star Boxing and Jerome Abiteboul. We truly believe that we can collaborate with promotions worldwide to expand the sport and produce the biggest fights.

“The European title is the next step on Dan Azeez’s path to world championship contention. He is such an exciting talent.” Dan will have a great time, and we will announce additional fights later this week.

In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, Sky Sports will live stream the March 11 event.

MMA Preview: UFC Fight Night 221 – Petr Yan (16-4) vs Merab Dvalishvili (15-4)

Petr Yan vs Merab Dvalishvili headlines UFC Fight Night 221, an event taking place at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Vegas on Saturday, March 11, 2023

Petr Yan vs Merab Dvalishvili Odds
Moneyline Odds
Petr Yan -260
Merab Dvalishvili +196
*Odds taken from Sports Odds Direct Thursday, March 9, 2023.

Petr Yan (16-4) is expected to win after two contentious split-decision losses. The oddsmakers have the Russian fighter winning UFC Fight Night 221’s main event at -200.

Nicknamed The Machine, Merab Dvalishvili (15-4) is renowned as somebody who won’t ever stopped. Perhaps he can outlast the main event on Saturday and take the fight by decision?

Petr Yan is a former UFC Bantamweight champion who lost his title to Aljamain Sterling by knockout in March 2021. His road to title begins on Saturday. He was disqualified for doing an illegal knee kick that many people thought was easy.

Seven months later, he intended to exact his vengeance, but Aljo withdrew from the fight just five days before the event. Yan fought Cory Sandhagen in his place and won by unanimous decision.

After that, Yan got a second chance to fight Sterling in his first fight of 2022. He lost on a split decision, which was unfortunate for him. Although it wasn’t as controversial as Yan’s most recent fight, it was a controversial decision nonetheless.

Yan fought Sean O’Malley in October. Yan eventually took control of the fight after a sluggish start. Even though 25 of the 26 representatives of the media thought he would win, two of the three judges gave O’Malley the win.

Yan has consequently fallen to No. 2nd place (below O’Malley) in the UFC Bantamweight Rankings. However, he is close to returning to the title conversation. His next fight will almost certainly be against O’Malley or Sterling if he defeats Dvalishvili on Saturday.

Merab Dvalishvili Searching for His ninth Consecutive UFC Win
The Georgian warrior is 15-5 by and large with nine straight wins in the UFC. The fact that eleven of his victories were decided by him is interesting. This is surprising because Dvalishvili has a background in Combat Sambo and is an excellent wrestler and grappler.

In his fight against Marlon Moraes, which he won by technical knockout, he demonstrated that he is also an excellent striker.

However, Dvalishvili’s athleticism is his greatest competitive advantage. He’s not nicknamed The Machine by some coincidence. This guy has a real drive that will allow him to keep hitting opponents and getting hit until the very end.

However, the fact that his fight with Yan on Saturday will be his first in a five-round format has to worry him.

MMA Preview: Bellator 292 – Valentin Moldavsky (11-2-1) vs Linton Vassell (31-8-1)

0

Valentin Moldavsky vs Linton Vassell is one of the most interesting matchups of Bellator 292, an MMA event taking place this Friday at Sap Center in San Jose, California

Bellator 292: Nurmagomedov vs Henderson is stacked with amazing fights. The main event, though, seems a bit mismatched as Usman Nurmagomedov is priced at -2000.

Valentin Moldavsky vs Linton Vassell Odds
Moneyline Odds
Valentin Moldavsky -300
Linton Vassell +220

When, Where, and How to Watch?
Place: SAP Center in San Jose, California
Date: Friday, March 10, 2023
Time: ~10:00 PM ET
How to Watch: Showtime

Moldavsky is 11-2-1 in his professional career, and one of those 11 victories came against Linton Vassell, who is Moldavsky’s next opponent. We witnessed Moldavsky defeat him by unanimous decision in March 2019.

The Russian fighter certainly possesses what it takes to be regarded as the betting favorite, but there is one thing that should concern him. Since almost two years ago, he has not won a single game. In June 2021, Moldavsky defeated Timothy Johnson by unanimous decision to win the interim Bellator Heavyweight title. This was his last victory in a fight.

He then lost to Ryan Bader by consistent choice, subsequently losing the Bellator Heavyweight Big showdown to the American. The fight with Steve Mowry, which was supposed to be a title eliminator, came next. However, after just 54 seconds, Moldavsky accidentally poked his opponent in the eye, so the fight was declared a draw.

Fedor Emelianenko’s protégé gets an opportunity to return to his triumphant ways this approaching Friday while he’s taking on Linton Vassell. Could he at any point pull it off?

Moldavsky is an excellent striker and a former Combat Sambo world champion. He also has a lot of stamina, as evidenced by the fact that two of his fights, two of which lasted five rounds, went all the way to the finish.

Linton Vassell Plotting Retribution
Linton Vassell is 31-8-1 generally speaking with four straight wins, three of which occurred by technical knockout. He lost his last fight to Moldavsky, Vassell’s first heavyweight bout in nearly a decade. He has grown in size since then, but he is still quick and agile.

Within the ring, Vassell has excellent movement and a propensity to land numerous blows in every fight. He also excels on the floor, as evidenced by his portfolio of eight submission victories. The big question is whether he can harm Moldavsky similarly.

Boxing: Diego Pacheco’s (17-0-0, 14 KO’s) vs Jack Cullen (21-3-1, 9 KO’s)

Callum Smith was unable to compete in his Light-Heavyweight matchup with Pawel Stepien on March 11 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool due to an injury.

The fight for Diego Pacheco’s WBO International Super-Middleweight Title against Jack Cullen and Robbie Davies Jr.’s Super-Lightweight fight against Darragh Foley will now co-headline the event, which will continue to be broadcast live on DAZN worldwide (with the exception of Australia and New Zealand).

WHAT TIME IS THE PACHECO VS. CULLEN FIGHT?
Date: Saturday, March 11
Time: 7 p.m. GMT / 2 p.m. ET
Main event ringwalks (approx): 10:20 p.m. GMT / 5:20 p.m. ET
The card will stream live on DAZN in over 200 countries across the globe
The main card is set to get underway at 7 p.m. GMT / 2 p.m. ET with the main event ringwalks scheduled for 10 p.m. GMT / 5 p.m. ET.

One of the hottest American boxing prospects, Pacheco (17-0, 14 knockouts) takes on Little Lever’s Cullen (21-3-1, 9 knockouts) in a fight that promises to be all-action. Pacheco is making his debut in the UK and is hoping to impress.

Originally scheduled to fight Australia’s Liam Paro, Davies Jr. (23-3, 15 KOs) will now face Foley (21-4-1, 9 KOs) over ten rounds. The Irishman from Australia arrives in Liverpool brimming with confidence after four straight victories.

Johnny Fisher, a Romford Heavyweight sensation (7-0, 6 KOs), brings “The Romford Bull” Army to Liverpool for the first time. He will fight Italy’s Alfonso Damiani (6-2, 2 KOs) over eight rounds, and Peter McGrail, a decorated amateur star who has turned into a Super-Bantamweight prospect, will make his much-anticipated Matchroom debut.

Oldham’s Aqib Fiaz (10-0) faces Yeovil’s Dean Dodge (9-2-1, 3 KOs) over eight rounds at Super-Featherweight, while Hyde’s Campbell Hatton (9-0, 3 KOs), Chester Middleweight Paddy Lacey (7-0, 1 KO), and Billericay Middleweight George Liddard (1-0, 1 KO) compete for the Commonwealth Title against Wombourne’s Vicky Wilkinson (5-0)
