MLS Preview: Nashville SC (1-0-0) at New York Red Bulls (0-1-0)

0

The New York Red Bulls and Nashville have only met once before, in the 2021 season, when New York won 2-0 at home and drew 1-1 in Nashville. Nashville has never lost to the Red Bulls, the only Eastern Conference team Nashville has faced more than once.

Last season, the New York Red Bulls had trouble at home, losing five of their last nine games in Harrison (W3 D1), including a playoff loss to FC Cincinnati. Since October 2020 (W15 D11), New York had only lost five of its 31 previous home games at Red Bulls Arena in all competitions.

In 2020, Nashville SC won all five of its regular-season road games (W2 D3). It lost to Charlotte FC on the road in July, equaling the longest regular-season road streak in MLS history.

In their 1-0 defeat to Orlando City on Saturday, the Red Bulls received only one shot on goal, a penalty kick from Facundo Torres, out of a league-low six attempts. It was only the second time since 2010 that New York had lost a game in which it had one shot on target; the other loss came in August 2022 against Orlando.

Jacob Shaffelburg was set up by Hany Mukhtar on the bench for Nashville’s second goal against NYCFC on Saturday. Since joining MLS in 2020 (including playoffs), Mukhtar has scored at least once in 49 matches, eight more than any other player.

MLS Preview: Houston Dynamo FC (0-1-0) at New England Revolution (1-0-0)

0

In September of last year, the Dynamo defeated the Revolution 3-1 to earn their first victory since 2014. Houston hasn’t won in New England since July 2013, and the Revs have won four of their last five meetings there, including avoiding defeat.

Only the sixth time in the Revs’ 28 seasons that they have won their first match of the season, New England’s 1-0 victory at Charlotte on Saturday marked their first victory in a season opener since 2013. The first two games of a new MLS season have never been won by New England.

On Saturday, Houston’s season began with a 2-1 defeat to FC Cincinnati, snapping a streak that had lasted for 11 seasons. In MLS history, the Dynamo have never started a season with consecutive losses.

Bruce Arena has only lost one of his 12 matches against Ben Olsen (W6 D5), a 1-0 defeat against DC United in 2015 with the Galaxy. Olsen was coached by Arena during his 1998 debut season in MLS.

Saturday, Tate Schmitt scored the only goal for the Dynamo in his debut. Schmitt is the Dynamo player since M. Urruti in 2012 to score on his club debut; In their first two games with the team, only three players have scored: Romell Quioto, Andrew Wenger, and Brian Ching are the first three.

MLS Preview: Philadelphia Union (1-0-0) at Inter Miami FC (1-0-0)

0

The Union have won all three of their meetings with Inter Miami FC in Florida (W2 D1, including a 2-1 victory in MLS is Back). However, Union coach Jim Curtin has only played one game against the Miami Fusion; that was a 2-1 loss to Chicago on July 18, 2001, at Lockhart Stadium, which is the same location as DRV Pink Stadium.

With a 2-0 victory over CF Montreal at home, Inter Miami became the first team in its four seasons to win in the season opener. The Herons had conceded at least one goal in ten of their previous ten home games, the longest such streak in MLS as of 2023.

The Union began their campaign with a 4-1 victory over Columbus, their third consecutive game in which they scored at least three goals since the playoffs of last season. Philadelphia has never scored at least three objectives in four successive MLS games (normal season and end of the season games).

Serhiy Kryvtsov became the first Ukrainian player since Dema Kovalenkko did so for the Galaxy in the 2010 season to score in an MLS game when he scored Miami’s first goal on Saturday. Since scoring for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian Premier League on September 20, 2020, it was Kryvtsov’s first goal in a league game.

Daniel Gazdag, with two goals and two assists in the match against Columbus, became the fourth player in MLS history to score four goals in the season opener for his team, surpassing Jason Kreis in 1999 and Brian Ching in 2006.

MLS Preview: D.C. United (1-0-0) at Columbus Crew SC (0-1-0)

0

Since 2021 (W3 D1), Columbus has only lost one of its last five meetings with DC United, and each game has featured at least three goals. D. C. United has the fifth-worst record in those games (W16 D4 L25), but it has played the most games with at least three goals scored (45).

Columbus fell to the Philadelphia Union 4-1 in its season opener on Saturday, its first loss since 2016. After allowing five goals to the Tampa Bay Mutiny in 2000, the Crew have now conceded four goals in their first game of the season twice.

On Saturday, D. C. United defeated Toronto on a comeback to win 3-2. Since its first match in July, a 5-3 victory over Orlando City, D. C. United had not scored at least three goals in a game.

When Patrick Schulte made his MLS debut against Philadelphia, he gave up four goals and only made one save. Roman Burki and Carlos Coronel, the only two goalkeepers who played this past weekend, made fewer saves.

In D. C. United’s victory on Saturday, Mohanad Jeahze and Theodore Ku-Dipietro each had two assists and one goal. In the team’s first game of the season, D. C. United had two players score at least two goals for the last time in 1993 (3 for Marco Etcheverry and Roy Lassiter; 2 for Richie Williams and Ben Olsen.

MMA Preview: Jon Jones (26-1-1) at Cyril “Bon Gamin” Gane (11-1)

Three years after his last fight, Jon Jones will make his heavyweight debut on Saturday. Jon Jones vs. Cyril Gane is the main event of UFC 285 in Vegas and one of the most exciting heavyweight fights in years. He is competing against Cyril Gane for the vacant title. In the heavyweight division, Jones, widely regarded as the GOAT, has a shot at winning the title. Gane is the only thing standing in the way of his progress.

Jon Jones Has Never Been This Big and Strong Jon “Bones” Jones has a professional record of 26-1-1, but some may argue that his actual record is 28-0. His only defeat came when he was disqualified from a fight he was winning because of illegal elbows. Jones beat Daniel Cormier in the title fight by knockout in the first round, which resulted in the fight being declared a draw. Jones’s positive drug test resulted in the loss of the victory.

Jon Jones vs Cyril Gane Odds
Moneyline Odds
Jon Jones – 175
Cyril Gane + 150

When, Where, and How to Watch?
Place: T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada
Date: Saturday, March 4, 2023
Time: ~10:00 PM ET
How to Watch: PPV

Jones has defeated a number of elite fighters during his professional career, including DC and others like Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustafsson, and Glover Teixeira.

Jones is known as a fighter who enjoys using his own weapons to defeat his opponents. He defeated Cormier in wrestling, KO’d Gustafsson, etc. On Saturday, will he attempt to outbox Cyril Gane? Experts in MMA disagree. Instead, they believe Jones will concentrate on what they perceive to be Gane’s Achilles’ heel, grappling.

Cyril “Bon Gamin” Gane (11-1) is a heavyweight who moves like a middleweight and needs more weapons to defeat Jones. This explains why he didn’t get hit a lot in the title fight against Francis Ngannou. Ngannou, on the other hand, defeated Gane completely in that fight.

Even the No. 1 contender, Gane, had no idea that Ngannou would engage in grappling. He lost the title fight for one reason. However, he is probably prepared for the fight on the floor this time. Naturally, the question is whether or not he will require his grappling abilities at all.

The problem is that Gane is a great kickboxer who has Muay Thai experience and has a much wider range of motion than Jones. He certainly appears to be capable of keeping his opponent at a distance.

Prediction for Jon Jones vs. Cyril Gane: Jon Jones will win by taking the fight to the ground. Cyril Gane must outbox his opponent in order to win the title. So, which strategy will win out?

The odds are stacked in Jones’ favor, but we expect the three-year hiatus to wear down. Jones isn’t fast enough to keep up with Gane, who is going to hurt Jones with his punches and also has steel fists.

Nevertheless, we do not anticipate Gane eliminating him. Instead, in order to win by decision, he will try to land as many significant strikes as possible.

MLS Preview: Toronto FC (0-1-0) at Atlanta United FC (1-0-0)

0

Since its debut in 2017, Atlanta has not lost any of its six regular season home games against Toronto (W3 D3). However, in the 2019 Eastern Conference Final, Toronto defeated Atlanta by a score of 2-1 to win the season.

In each of the previous three seasons, Atlanta has won its first two home games, and it has a chance to do so against Toronto. Since 2020, no other team among the 26 that have participated in MLS has won its first two home games in each season.

Toronto has been outscored by at least three goals in five of its last six games, dating back to the end of last season. In Toronto’s MLS history, the team has only lost nine games in a row during the regular season, from March to May of 2012.

Thiago Almada, along with Julian Carranza, Daniel Gazdag, and Jordan Morris, share the early league lead in goals with his team’s two goals in the season opener. With eight attempted shots, the 2022 World Cup winner also holds the overall lead in MLS.

After the first games of the season, newcomer Matt hedges leads Toronto with five tackles. Since 2010, Hedges has led FC Dallas in both tackles (464) and tackles won (334). He now joins the Reds.
