NBA Preview: Milwaukee Bucks (49-19) at Phoenix Suns (37-31)

0

The Milwaukee Bucks, who will play the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday to end their three-game Western Conference trip, have star center Brook Lopez.

After the 15-year veteran was ejected in the final seconds of Milwaukee’s Monday game at Sacramento following a fight with Kings forward Trey Lyles, the question now is whether Lopez will be available.

The Bucks defeated the Kings 133-124 thanks to 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks from Lopez.

Lyles fouled Giannis Antetokounmpo with 15.4 seconds remaining, giving the Milwaukee star a small push. After that, Lopez got in Lyles’ face, and Lyles punched Lopez in the face. This caused a scrum, and it took several players and referees to break it up.

Lopez is averaging 21.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in seven games this month, making him one of the leading contenders for the league’s defensive player of the year award. He has the most blocks in the NBA with 169.

After missing three games because of soreness in his right hand, Antetokounmpo played on Monday and scored 46 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

In the victory over the Kings, Milwaukee forward Khris Middleton scored a season-high 31 points and had nine assists. On Tuesday, the Bucks will likely rest Middleton, who has missed 43 games this season because of injuries, as they try to be cautious in the second game of a back-to-back set.

After defeating Phoenix 104-101 on Feb. 26 in Milwaukee, the Bucks are looking to complete a season sweep. They have won 10 of their last 11 games on the road.

After winning four games, Phoenix has lost two in a row. In the Suns’ 123-112 defeat to the Golden State Warriors on Monday in San Francisco, Devin Booker scored 32 points and Deandre Ayton had 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Due to a sprained left ankle, Suns forward Kevin Durant missed his third straight game. The Suns are hopeful that Durant will be nearly at full strength at the time of his reevaluation in two and a half weeks.

The majority of the Suns’ scoring has come from Booker and Ayton since Durant has been sidelined. To help fill the void left by Durant’s absence, coach Monty Williams is looking for players like Josh Okogie, Torrey Craig, and Terrence Ross. When Okogie faced the Warriors, he scored 11 points.

As the Suns play their third game in four nights on Tuesday, depth will once again be crucial.

Phoenix has a home record of 22-11, but a road record of 15-20.

NBA Preview: Detroit Pistons (16-53) at Washington Wizards (31-37)

0

In order to advance to the NBA play-in tournament, the Washington Wizards do not want to rely on assistance from other teams. They have been in a precarious position for the past ten days.

They have only won one of their last six games, but they will play the Detroit Pistons, the team they beat, on Tuesday night in Washington.

Washington is one half-game behind the Chicago Bulls for 10th place and the final Eastern Conference play-in spot after Sunday’s 112-93 loss to the host Philadelphia 76ers.

On Sunday, the Wizards had access to all of their primary offensive players, but the Sixers controlled the game except for a 31-point second quarter. Washington missed 23.1% of its 3-point attempts and shot 40.5 percent overall.

Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis, and Kyle Kuzma combined to score 34 points, 33 points less than their typical total.

With 25 points, Kispert tied his career high, but his individual performance offered little consolation.

Due to soreness in his right knee, Kuzma is listed as questionable to play Tuesday. Detroit has been defeated seven times in a row by Washington.

The Pistons will play the second of two consecutive games. They defeated the visiting Indiana Pacers 117-97 on Monday to end an 11-game losing streak.

Despite a haphazard rotation, Detroit held a 31-point lead. Eugene Omoruyi started at small forward and scored 17 points, signing his second 10-day contract earlier in the day.

In his first start, Rodney McGruder, who has been on the bench most of the season, scored 18 points.

Cory Joseph, a journeyman point guard, scored a season-high 22 points in Detroit’s first victory since beating the San Antonio Spurs in double overtime on Feb. 10.

Indiana, which was likewise playing without a few starters on Monday, crushed the Cylinders 121-115 on Saturday.

Boxing Preview: Cyrus Pattinson (5-0-0, 3 KO’s) vs Chris Jenkins (23-6-3, 8 KO’s)

Some of the best prospects in the North East and beyond will compete on Matchroom’s first NXTGEN card of the year on March 18 at the Utilita Arena Newcastle. The event will be broadcast live on DAZN worldwide.

Cyrus Pattinson, a star on Team GB, faces Wales’ Chris Jenkins, a former British Welterweight Champion (23-6-3, 8 KOs), in a fight for the vacant WBA International Title. This will be Pattinson’s toughest test yet in the professional ranks.

WHAT TIME IS CYRUS PATTINSON VS. CHRIS JENKINS?

Date : Saturday, March 18 Time : 7 p.m. GMT / 3 p.m. ET

Main event ringwalks (approx): 10:00 p.m. GMT / 6:00 p.m. ET

The card will stream live on DAZN in over 200 countries across the globe

The fight will take place at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England.

The main card is set to get underway at 7 p.m. GMT / 3 p.m. ET with the main event ringwalks scheduled for 10 p.m. GMT / 6 p.m. ET.

Alnwick’s Pattinson hasn’t put a foot wrong since turning over in Newcastle back in June 2021, winning each of the five of his challenges – with three stopping via knockout – and the 28-year-old southpaw got the empty IBO Mainland Title last break in Nottingham.

In his first scheduled eight-round fight, Pat McCormack, a Welterweight prospect who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and is currently 3-0 with two knockouts, faces Italy’s Dario Socci, who is 15-7-2 with six knockouts.

The talent, who was trained by Ben Davison, signed a long-term promotional contract with Eddie Hearn in October. In November, he beat Christian Nicolas Andino at Wembley’s OVO Arena to get off to a winning start under the Matchroom banner.

Solomon Dacres, a 5-0, 1 KO heavyweight from Birmingham, will take on Newcastle’s unbeaten Robert Ismay, 11-0, 4 KOs, for the vacant English Heavyweight Title. This will be Dacres’ first fight for a paid title.

Hopey Price, a Leeds Super-Bantamweight contender, takes on Frenchman Thomas Masson (20-5-1, 7 KOs) for the vacant WBA Continental Title in a fight for his second professional title as he continues his climb up the 122-pound weight class.

West Rainton’s previous Group GB Platform Crew part Imprint Dickinson (4-0, 1 KOs) faces Cover’s Ben Ridings (5-3) more than eight rounds at Middleweight and Gateshead Lightweight Calum French (3-0, 1 KO) battles Seaham’s Jordan Ellison (14-44-3, 1 KO) more than eight rounds in a North East derby.

Darlington Super-Lightweight Ben Marksby (6-0), Eltham Super-Flyweight prospect Maiseyrose Courtney (1-0), and Sunderland Super-Featherweight Adam Reichard (1-0) will also compete on the card.

Pattinson stated, “I’m absolutely buzzing to be fighting in Newcastle on March 18.” 2023 is a tremendous year for myself and to dismiss it from by battling before a home group in unbelievable. I’m determined to put on a show for the Geordies in the biggest fight of my career so far because no one else can create the atmosphere like they do. I can hardly stand by.”

Jenkins stated, “A win that I’m more than capable of getting come March 18 would most definitely put me back in the mix.” I will fight anyone who wants my title because I have value in the sport and have won it. I’m a traditional fighter who will fight anyone!

“I’ll be prepared for Cyrus, and I’m expecting him to come out of the blocks like he always does.” He appears to be a good come forward fighter, and he does most things well. However, I’ve noticed a few flaws in his fighting that I believe I can exploit in the fight.

Eddie Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Sport, stated, “It’s great to be back up in Newcastle for our very first NXTGEN card of the year starring some of the brightest talents in the North East and beyond.” We’ve had some great nights in Newcastle over the years with Lewis Ritson and other big names, and I can see Tyneside becoming a real hotbed of boxing talent with the next big names.

“I’m excited for a busy year with Pat McCormack, who is one of the very best amateurs we’ve seen on these shores in recent times. There will be title fights for Solomon Dacres and Hopey Price, as well as a lot more, and Cyrus Pattinson will have the opportunity to headline in front of a home crowd as he takes on the experienced Chris Jenkins. DAZN lets you see it all live around the world.

Valeri Nichushkin (1-2—3) and Cale Makar (0-3—3) also had three points for the Avalanche, who scored eight goals in a game against the Canadiens for the third time in franchise history (also Jan. 3, 1984 & March 17, 1986). Makar recorded the 18th three-point game of his NHL career and passed Tyson Barrie (17) for sole possession of the most by an Avalanche/Nordiques defenseman.

NBA Preview: New York Knicks (40-30) at Portland Trail Blazers (31-37)

0

Following his season-worst shooting performance, Julius Randle put on the kind of performance that has earned him two All-Star honors.

When the New York Knicks take on the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, Randle will attempt to score 30 points for the fifth time in 11 games since the All-Star break.

Randle scored 33 points on Sunday night as the Knicks defeated the host Los Angeles Lakers 112-108 to end a three-game losing streak.

In the previous game, Randle shot just 5-of-24 for a season-low 20.8 percent field goal success rate in a 106-95 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in the same arena.

During New York’s most recent nine-game winning streak of the season, Randle scored 43 points, matching his career high of 46 points.

However, Randle made just 18 of 63 shots (28.6%) during the following three games before making 11 of 24 against the Lakers and contributing eight rebounds and five assists.

Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks’ coach, was not concerned, but he was happy that his best player had returned to form.

RJ Barrett likewise succeeded Sunday with 30 places. In the past five games, he has scored at least 25 points in four of them.

As a result of Thibodeau’s announcement that star point guard Jalen Brunson (foot) will likely miss the fifth time in six games, Randle and Barrett will be asked to perform once more on Tuesday.

As a result of All-Star guard Damian Lillard missing Sunday’s 127-110 road loss to the New Orleans Pelicans due to calf tightness, Portland has its own injury concerns. In his last 28 games, Lillard has scored at least 20 points, including a career-high 71 against the Houston Rockets on February 26.

The Trail Blazers lost for the eighth time in their past 11 games and trailed by as many as 39 points when Lillard was absent. Without Lillard, Portland is 5-9 this season.

The Pioneers went 2-4 on the six-game excursion that finished in New Orleans, however play eight of their next nine games at home.

Coach Chauncey Billups wants his team to step it up, as Portland is 13th in the Western Conference and two games behind the final play-in position as of Monday.

To make the score appear less lopsided, the Trail Blazers outscored New Orleans 37-18 in the final quarter.

On Nov. 25, the Trail Blazers defeated the host Knicks in overtime 132-129, with Jerami Grant scoring a career-high 44 points and Anfernee Simons adding 38.

NBA Preview: Orlando Magic (28-40) at San Antonio Spurs (17-50)

0

The Orlando Magic will hope to keep their transitory postseason trusts alive and clear the season series with San Antonio when they fight the Spikes on Tuesday in the Alamo City.

With 14 regular-season games remaining, the Magic are just 3 1/2 games away from qualifying for the NBA’s Eastern Conference play-in tournament. At home on Saturday, Orlando prevailed 126-114 over Miami in overtime to end a three-game losing streak that had dropped the Magic to 13th place in the East.

In the victory over Miami, Wendell Carter Jr. posted a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds, avenging the Heat’s overtime defeat on Feb. 11. Orlando gave up a big lead in the fourth quarter, just like they did in their previous loss to Miami, but the Magic responded on Saturday, making seven of their nine shots from the floor in overtime.

The Magic were led by Paolo Banchero, who scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Franz Wagner scored 17 points as well. Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony each scored 16 points, Markelle Fultz scored 12 points, and Gary Harris scored 11.

The Magic have the toughness to make some noise down the stretch, despite their youthful roster. The remaining games for Orlando are all against teams fighting for a playoff spot or postseason positioning, with the exception of two.

San Antonio will play its third game on Tuesday in a six-game homestand that began with mixed results, with a win on Friday against Denver, which leads the West, and a loss on Sunday against Oklahoma City, which only had one player available.

The latter, which ended in a 102-90 defeat for the Thunder, was played with starters Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, and Tre Jones out because of illness or injury.

It is anticipated that all three will return for the Magic showdown.

In the loss on Sunday, San Antonio was led by Zach Collins, who scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Devonte’ Graham scored 20, Keita Bates-Diop scored 12, and Doug McDermott scored 11.

After falling behind by as many as 17 points in the second quarter, the Spurs rallied to tie the game in the third, but they were unable to keep the momentum up, resulting in their third defeat in their last four games.

NBA Preview: Brooklyn Nets (39-29) at Oklahoma City Thunder (33-35)

0

Since the NBA All-Star break, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Brooklyn Nets have taken similar paths.

After the break, the Thunder dropped their first five games. The first four games the Nets lost,

Since then, Brooklyn has won five of its six games. Oklahoma City as well.

When the Nets and Thunder play each other on Tuesday in Oklahoma City, something has to give.

Brooklyn and the New York Knicks are tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference going into this game, three games behind Cleveland.

The Thunder are one of many Western Conference teams in contention for the play-in tournament.

Both teams’ surge has been centered on defense. Both the Nets (105.7 points allowed per 100 possessions) and Thunder (108.4) have a defensive rating in the top four during their most recent hot streaks.

Even though the Nets are soaring since trading away Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in separate deals in early February, center Nic Claxton said that the team’s victory over Denver on Sunday, which they won 122-120, does not quite qualify as a statement victory.

The Nets have changed, especially in terms of their defensive identity, thanks to the acquisitions of Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie in the Irving deal and Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson in the Durant deal.

Although the most recent outcomes have been favorable, it has taken some time for things to come together.

The final of Brooklyn’s five road games is on Tuesday.

The Nets will play 10 of their next 13 games at home following their matchup with the Thunder.

The Thunder did not make many changes before the deadline, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s return has been a big part of their recent success.

Gilgeous-Alexander has returned after missing five games and is shooting 54.7 percent from the field in three games while averaging 35.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 steals.

Gilgeous-Alexander has missed the second night of two consecutive games during this stretch.

In addition, rookie Jalen Williams has played a significant role in Oklahoma City’s recent success, averaging 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.3 assists while shooting 60.7% from the floor in his last four games.

This season, the teams have met twice, the second on Tuesday.

On January 15, Brooklyn hosted the first match, which Oklahoma City won 112-102.
