NBA Preview: Golden State Warriors (36-33) at Los Angeles Clippers (36-33)

0

The Golden State Warriors must now deal with one of the problems they’ve had all season after winning two games that seemed to indicate a newfound enthusiasm for the playoffs.

The Warriors’ championship pedigree was demonstrated by their victories over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday and the Phoenix Suns on Monday, two NBA finalist teams from last season. However, as they travel, their play has not been up to par. On Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors travel south to face the Los Angeles Clippers.

This season, the Warriors have won seven games on the road, more than any other playoff-eligible team. Only the lowly San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets, with six victories each, have fewer road victories than Golden State, which is one of only four teams in the entire NBA.

In addition to their eight-game road losing streak, the Warriors average 123.8 points per game on the road, compared to 111.7 points per game at home.

After dropping each of their previous three games against Phoenix this season, the Warriors defeated the Suns by a score of 123-112 on Monday. Klay Thompson made eight 3-pointers and scored 33 of his 38 points in the first half. 23 points were scored by Stephen Curry.

The Clippers have also been revived with a three-game winning streak to begin a five-game homestand after a five-game losing streak that coincided with Russell Westbrook’s arrival.

Kawhi Leonard scored 38 points on 14-of-22 shooting for the Los Angeles Lakers in Saturday’s 106-95 victory over the New York Knicks. 22 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists were provided by Paul George.

The Clippers held an opponent under 100 points for the first time since Jan. 22 against the Dallas Mavericks, indicating that they have regained their defensive identity. After allowing 131.7 points in their previous six games, Los Angeles has surrendered an average of 97.5 points in their last two contests.

The Warriors, who are second in the NBA with 118.2 points per game, present a significant challenge for the Clippers, despite the fact that their previous two games have not exactly been against high-scoring teams in the Knicks or Toronto Raptors.

Since signing with the Clippers, Westbrook has played eight games and averaged 13.3 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.0 turnovers. However, in his last two games, he has played 23 minutes per game and averaged 7.0 points and 3.0 turnovers.

It is anticipated that each team will not have a productive guard. Andrew Wiggins, who plays for the Warriors, has been out since February 14 for personal reasons, and Norman Powell, who plays for the Clippers, hasn’t played since the Clippers’ 115-91 road loss to Golden State on March 2 because of a shoulder injury.

NBA Preview: Boston Celtics (47-22) at Minnesota Timberwolves (35-34)

0

When the Boston Celtics play the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night in Minneapolis, the third game of a six-game road trip, they will try to avoid suffering consecutive defeats.

Five of Boston’s last eight games have ended in defeat. That includes a humiliating loss to Houston on Monday by a score of 111 to 109. The Rockets are out of the playoff picture and in last place in the Western Conference.

The Celtics lost by 43 points thanks to 43 points from Jaylen Brown. Boston made 12 of 42 attempts (28.6%) from three-point range.

In the loss on Monday, Jayson Tatum scored 22 points, but he was 3-for-12 from the field in the first half, missing six of his seven attempts at a 3-pointer. He had a team-high six assists and eight rebounds for the Celtics.

Boston’s top scorers are Tatum (30.3 points per game) and Brown (26.6).

During the Timberwolves’ 136-115 victory over Atlanta on Monday, Anthony Edwards scored 32 points. With the victory, Minnesota ended its two-game losing streak.

Minnesota pulled away thanks to two 3-pointers made by Edwards late in the fourth quarter. He leads the Timberwolves in scoring (24.9 points per game) and steals (1.7 per game) and has scored at least 30 points in each of his last three games.

In the third period, Minnesota’s Kyle Anderson scored 12 of his 14 points. He also had 10 rebounds and 12 assists. His career-high triple-double was his third.

The Celtics and Timberwolves will play their second game of the season on Wednesday. When Boston defeated Minnesota 121-109 at home on December 23, Brown scored 23 of his game-high 36 points in the fourth quarter. Edwards was Minnesota’s driving scorer in that game with 30 places.

For the sixth game in a row, Boston will be without center Robert Williams III because of a hamstring injury. Payton Pritchard (heel), a guard, will miss his fourth consecutive game.

Minnesota is without center Rudy Gobert (ankle), big man Naz Reid (calf), and guard Austin Rivers (back).

NBA Preview: Sacramento Kings (40-27) at Chicago Bulls (31-36)

0

Clinging to the No. The Chicago Bulls, who opened a three-game homestand on Wednesday against a visiting Sacramento Kings team that was fighting for a place in the West and were ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference as of Tuesday, will be looking for their third win in a row.

After its three-game winning streak ended on Monday, Sacramento begins a four-game road trip in Chicago with the goal of reestablishing its winning streak. The Kings wasted a 15-point, first-half lead in their 133-124 misfortune to NBA-driving Milwaukee regardless of defining moments from De’Aaron Fox, Kevin Huerter and Domantas Sabonis.

Sabonis had 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 15 assists for his 10th triple-double of the season, but he was only able to shoot 3-of-11 after the break. Fox scored 35 points and Huerter hit 8 of 11 3-point attempts for 28 points, but neither player really came alive until after the break.

Sacramento dropped to 0-5 on the season in games with 130 or more points allowed after giving up 133. The sole exception is the historic double overtime victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on February 24 by a score of 176-175.

The Kings are currently third in the Western Conference, one game behind Memphis and five and a half games behind Denver, which leads the conference. While Sacramento has the best offense in the NBA, scoring 121.3 points per game, it ranks third in scoring defense, allowing 118.6 points per game.

With a yield of 112.4 points per game, Chicago, on the other hand, is in the top 10 of the league when it comes to scoring defense.

After defeating Denver on Wednesday by a score of 117-96 and Houston on Saturday by a score of 119-111, the Bulls return home after winning two games on the road in which they held opponents to fewer points than that.

Chicago sits in the tenth spot in the East, which would be really great for the last play-in billet for the postseason. Through Monday’s games, Washington was only half a game ahead of the Bulls.

Chicago came back from a difficult third quarter in which it gave up 40 points to hold the Rockets to just 16 in the victory over Houston. DeMar DeRozan scored 10 of the Bulls’ 32 points in the quarter as they doubled up on the Rockets.

With four rebounds, two assists, and a blocked shot in the fourth, Patrick Beverley was the driving force behind the comeback. Beverley scored 16 points to reach double digits for the first time since joining the Bulls’ roster following the All-Star break.

The inclusion of the former three-time All-Defensive selection in the lineup ought to play a significant role in Chicago’s efforts to reach the postseason for only the third time in the previous eight seasons.

NBA Preview: Memphis Grizzlies (41-26) at Miami Heat (37-33)

0

On Wednesday night, the Miami Heat will host the Memphis Grizzlies, who are without superstar Ja Morant but are still enjoying a three-game win streak.

Morant has been sidelined for five games in a row due to issues off the field, one of which involves him brandishing a gun at a Denver nightclub on March 4. He has reportedly enrolled in a counseling program in Florida, and he will not be available on Wednesday.

Despite missing Morant’s playmaking, the Grizzlies have won recently; he averages 27.1 points and 8.2 assists, both team highs.

Additionally, Memphis is without center Steven Adams, who is the team leader in rebounds per game with 11.5. Adams is likely to miss the remainder of the regular season due to a knee injury.

Brandon Clarke, Memphis’ 6th driving scorer, is likewise out until the end of the time because of a torn left Achilles.

Desmond Bane, a shooting guard, is Memphis’s best available scorer with 21.3 points per game. Morant has been replaced at point guard by Tyus Jones, who has 4.7 assists and ranks second on the team. Jaren Jackson Jr. has an NBA-high 16.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game.

Dillon Brooks, a wing, is the other important Grizzlies starter, averaging 14.3 points per game.

Memphis’ most exciting player off the bench is rookie wing David Roddy, who has come to life in the past two games, scoring 19 points on Monday and a career-high 24 points on Saturday. The Dallas Mavericks were the opponents in both games.

Regarding the game on Wednesday, the trends are inconsistent.

Although the Heat are just 5-8 overall in their last 13 games, Miami is 23-13 at home.

Memphis has a home record of 28-5, but their road record is just 13-21. In fact, in their last 13 road contests, they are 2-11.

However, the Grizzlies have won five of their last six meetings with Miami, going 5-1.

With 22.6 points per game, Jimmy Butler leads Miami and shoots 52.5 percent from the field goal line and 85.1 percent from the free throw line. He also goes to the line of scrimmage 8.6 times per game, which is the most on the team.

On Monday, Miami rallied to defeat the Utah Jazz, who were visiting, 119-115. Butler scored 24 points.

In the entire fourth quarter, there were 13 lead changes.

The Intensity’s other two tip top scorers are Bam Adebayo (20.9) and Tyler Herro (20.3). In Miami’s victory over Utah, Adebayo altered a shot at the rim in the final seconds to make the game-changing defensive play. He leads the team in rebounds (9.4).

In the closing seconds, Herro made the crucial three-pointer.

It hasn’t turned into a central point yet, yet Intensity reinforcement focus Omer Yurtseven has played two straight games in the wake of having missed Miami’s initial 68 challenges because of lower leg medical procedure in November.

Yurtseven is Cody Zeller’s rotation replacement after he broke his nose in Saturday’s loss to Orlando.

TEAM NOTES
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight, the New York Islanders visit the Los Angeles Kings in the second and final meeting between the two clubs this season. It is just their fourth meeting since 2022, and the Islanders will look to earn their first road win against Los Angeles since October 18, 2018. The last time these teams met, Adam Pelech found the back of the net with less than five minutes remaining in the third, but the Islanders fell to the Kings in a 3-2 decision at UBS Arena. Tonight begins the Islanders’ three-game West Coast road trip, and their 13th of 15 back-to-back series this season. Since facing the Kings on February 24, the Islanders have played six games and dropped just one decision in regulation, posting a 4-1-1 record in that span. The Islanders have a 6-3-1 record in their last ten games, and will look to bounce back tonight following a 5-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

PENALTY KILL
The Islanders enter tonight’s matchup with an 83.1% success rate on the penalty kill, fourth in the NHL and second in the Metropolitan Division (Carolina, 83.9%). This season, the Islanders have allowed just 33 power play goals in 195 times shorthanded, tied with Vegas for the third-lowest total in the NHL. They have a 91.7% penalty kill through four games this month, and have allowed just one power play goal through 12 times shorthanded.

THIRD PERIOD ACTION
The Islanders have outscored opponents 17-4 in the third period through their last 11 games. Thursday night against Pittsburgh was the ninth time this season the Islanders have captured a victory when trailing at some point in the third period. The Islanders have also won eight games this season when trailing after two periods, most in the NHL. They have also won 16 games this season when trailing at any point during the game. The Islanders have allowed the first goal in four of their last seven wins. Tuesday night’s victory against Buffalo was their 12th of the season when allowing the first goal (12-17-4).
