0

When the Toronto Raptors take on the struggling Detroit Pistons on Friday night, they will attempt to restore home court advantage.

Before their Wednesday defeat of the visiting Indiana Pacers by a score of 118-114, the Raptors (35-38) had won seven consecutive games at home.

Meanwhile, the host Atlanta Hawks defeated the Pistons 129-107 on Tuesday, handing them their fourth consecutive defeat.

When the Raptors played the Pacers in the first game of a four-game homestand, they were without Scottie Barnes (wrist), Gary Trent Jr. (elbow), and Precious Achiuwa (hamstring).

On Thursday, none of them participated in practice, and all three are listed as questionable for Friday. After practice, Barnes used a brace on his injured left wrist to shoot.

After a sluggish start, the Raptors, who are 23-14 at home, trailed the Pacers 36-26 in the first quarter.

Fred VanVleet had 28 points and 11 assists, Pascal Siakam had 31 points (25 in the second half), and Jakob Poeltl had 23 points and eight rebounds for the Raptors.

Detroit’s Bagley also had three steals, two blocked shots, and eight rebounds. 21 points and six assists were provided by Killian Hayes.

Despite missing his fourth consecutive Detroit game due to a sore right hip, Isaiah Livers is listed as probable. After missing one game, R.J. Hampton (lower back) returned and scored nine points.

The Pistons made the announcement on Thursday that forward Eugene Omoruyi has agreed to stay with the team for the remainder of the season.

0

With time running out, the Washington Wizards are on the outside looking in for a spot in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament. They cannot afford to lose to San Antonio on Friday when the Spurs come to the nation’s capital for their annual visit.

With nine regular-season games remaining, the Wizards (32-41) entered Thursday in 12th place, 2 1/2 games behind Chicago for the final play-in spot. San Antonio (19-54) has already been ruled out of the playoffs.

Washington has lost seven of its last eight games and four in a row at the worst possible time. The Wizards’ most recent outing was a home loss to Denver, which leads the West, on Wednesday by a score of 118 to 104. This was the second game of a road-home back-to-back.

Deni Avdija added 16 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, while Kristaps Porzingis led Washington with 25 points in the loss. The Wizards trailed by 23 points early in the fourth quarter, but they got within 10 before Denver went on a 9-2 run that pretty much settled the game.

A season-worst 15.4% of Washington’s shots came from beyond the arc, going just 4-for-26. Due to injuries, Bradley Beal (sore left knee) and Kyle Kuzma (sore right ankle) did not play.

The Spurs travel to Washington, D.C., for the third game in a four-game road trip that began with two crushing defeats in New Orleans on Tuesday (119-84) and Milwaukee (leading the East) on Wednesday (130-94).

The Spurs were without driving scorer Keldon Johnson (neck sprain) for the subsequent straight game as well as Tre Jones, Doug McDermott, Devonte’ Graham and Romeo Langford because of wounds. The selection of which of these players will play on Friday will be made at game time.

Indiana can fit the bill for the play-in competition that will decide the last two season finisher groups in the Eastern Meeting, however it requirements to make progress – – and hold it – – during its last nine rounds of the customary season. For the tenth and final playoff spot, the Pacers are one and a half games behind the Chicago Bulls.

The Celtics (50-23) defeated the Sacramento Kings 132-109 on Tuesday to end a six-game road trip. Jayson Tatum scored 36 points for the Celtics (50-23) in the victory. During the trip, Boston went 4-2.

After missing eight games with a hamstring injury, Celtics center Robert Williams returned to the lineup on Wednesday. In just under 21 minutes against the Kings, he came off the bench and scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Six of the Celtics’ remaining nine games are at home. Boston is attempting to catch Milwaukee in order to secure the top playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.

The teams will play for the third time on Friday. On December 21, the Pacers defeated the Celtics 142-138 in overtime on the road, while the Pacers defeated the Celtics 117-112 in Boston.
