TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Barclay Goodrow, vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.
Blue Bombers acquire defensive back Alden Darby in trade with Argonauts
WINNIPEG, MB., – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has acquired American defensive back Alden Darby from the Toronto Argonauts, in exchange for American offensive lineman Terry Poole.
Darby (5-11, 195, Arizona State; DOB: June 22, 1992 in Long Beach, CA) joins the Blue Bombers after three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts. Over 43 games with the Argos, including 40 starts, Darby registered 137 tackles, one sack, eight interceptions and three touchdowns. He had 56 tackles and five interceptions in 17 games with Toronto in 2019.
Darby appeared in 50 games over four seasons at Arizona State (2010-13) and was a two-time All-Pac 12 player. He was signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and has also had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts before he joined the Argos.
Lighting extend affiliation with ECHL’S Orlando Solar Bears
Bolts to Play Preseason Game Versus Florida at Amway Center on October 5
TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have extended its ECHL affiliation agreement with the Orlando Solar Bears, vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced today. The Solar Bears will continue to serve as the “AA” affiliate for the Lightning over the next two seasons. The defending back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions will also play a preseason game against the Florida Panthers at the AdventHealth Rink at Amway Center on Tuesday, October 5. Tickets for the game will go on sale to the general public at a later date.
“We are extremely grateful for our affiliation with the Solar Bears,” BriseBois said. “Chris Heller, Drake Berehowsky and the entire organization provide a world class environment for our players to develop in a winning culture while also growing the game in the Sunshine State. The Lightning look forward to continuing our relationship with the Solar Bears for another two years.”

Tickets for the Lightning’s preseason game at Amway Center will go on sale to the general public at a date to be announced. Exclusive pre-sales to Lightning, Solar Bears and Orlando Magic Season Ticket Members, as well as Magic Premium members will be offered.
The Bolts’ return to Orlando will be the team’s fourth exhibition game at Amway Center, home of the Solar Bears and the NBA’s Orlando Magic, and their eighth appearance in Orlando overall. Tampa Bay’s most recent game at the AdventHealth Rink at Amway Center was September 27, 2018, a 6-2 win over the Panthers.
Tampa Bay entered into its current affiliation with Orlando at the start of the 2018-19 season. That season culminated in a second consecutive trip to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs for Orlando, and its longest postseason run to date. Since the start of the affiliation, 22 players have appeared with both the Solar Bears and the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa Bay’s American Hockey League affiliate, and Orlando has posted a 104-83-16-3 (.551) record.
Prior to that the Lightning held ECHL affiliations with the Adirondack Thunder for the 2017-28 season, the Kalamazoo Wings for 2016-17, and the Florida Everblades from 2010-2013. The Lightning’s very first ECHL affiliate was the Louisville Icehawks during the Bolts’ inaugural season in 1992-93.
The Solar Bears are members of the ECHL, the premier “AA” hockey league in North America, and have qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in five of nine seasons. The Solar Bears are owned and operated by the Orlando Magic and the DeVos Family, and play at the AdventHealth Rink at Amway Center, the 2012 Street and Smith’s Sports Business Journal Sports Facility of the Year.

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired INF Mason Berne (@Mason_Berne14) from the Atlanta Braves for C Stephen Vogt.
Berne, 25, played in 5 games for Rookie FCL Braves this season and hit .250 (3-for-12)/.857 OPS with 1 home run, 3 RBI and 2 walks.
He did not play in 2020 due to no Minor League season.
In 4 years in the Braves’ Minor League system (2018-21), he hit .231 (51-for-221)/.659 OPS with 10 doubles, 5 homers, 27 RBI and 28 walks in 75 games.
He was the Braves’ 33rd-round pick in the 2018 draft out of the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Red Sox announce roster moves
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
- Outfielder Jarren Duran was selected to the active major league roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 40.
- To make room for Duran on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox designated right-handed pitcher Austin Brice for assignment.
- Infielder/outfielder Marwin Gonzalez was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 13) with a right hamstring strain.
- To fill Gonzalez’s spot on the active major league roster, the Red Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck from Worcester.

Duran, 24, is ranked by Baseball America as the No. 25 prospect in baseball and as the fastest baserunner in the Red Sox’ minor league system. In 46 games with Worcester this season, the left-handed hitter has batted .270 (51-for-189) with a .926 OPS, 15 home runs, 32 RBI, and 12 stolen bases in 15 attempts. He has made 37 starts in center field, six in right field, two in left field, and one at designated hitter. Selected by the Red Sox in the seventh round of the 2018 June Draft, Duran is one of only four minor leaguers with at least 15 home runs and 10 stolen bases this season.
Brice, 29, has appeared in 13 games over two stints with the Red Sox, posting a 6.59 ERA (10 ER/13.2 IP) with 12 strikeouts, seven walks, and a .264 opponent batting average. The right-hander has also recorded a 1.20 ERA (2 ER/15.0 IP) with a 1.00 WHIP and a .140 opponent batting average in 12 appearances for Worcester, striking out 17 batters and walking eight.
Gonzalez, 32, has played in 70 games with the Red Sox this season, making 26 starts at second base, 11 at first base, nine at shortstop, seven in left field, six at third base, and two in right field. The switch-hitter has batted .205 (45-for-219) with two home runs and a .582 OPS. He recorded only two plate appearances in Boston’s last six games due to a hamstring injury.
Houck, 24, has made three appearances (two starts) for the Red Sox this season, posting a 4.35 ERA (5 ER/10.1 IP) with 12 strikeouts and one walk. In six starts for Worcester, the right-hander is 0-2 with a 5.14 ERA (12 ER/21.0 IP), 26 strikeouts, and seven walks. Selected by Boston in the first round of the 2017 June Draft, Houck made his major league debut in 2020. He is 3-2 with a 1.98 ERA (6 ER/27.1 IP) and 33 strikeouts in six major league outings (five starts)
Colorado Rockies transactions
The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte, right-handed pitcher Jhoulys ChacÃn, outfielder Yonathan Daza and right-handed pitcher Antonio Senzatela on the injured list, per Major League Baseball’s COVID and contact tracing protocols.
Additionally, the Rockies have recalled left-handed pitcher Ben Bowden, outfielder Sam Hilliard and right-hander Antonio Santos from Triple-A Albuquerque, and have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup as a replacement player.
The Rockies will also be without Manager Bud Black and First Base Coach Ron Gideon per COVID and contact tracing protocols. For tonight’s game, Bench Coach Mike Redmond will assume managerial duties and Major League Data & Game Planning Coordinator Doug Bernier will serve as the first base coach.
Cubs activate INF Eric Sogard off 10-day injured list
PHOENIX – The Chicago Cubs today activated infielder Eric Sogard off the 10-day injured list.
Sogard, 35, was placed on the 10-day injured list, July 6, with a left thumb contusion. The left-handed hitting Sogard has batted .250 (40-for-160) with five doubles, one triple, one home runs and 11 RBI in 73 games for Chicago after he signed a minor league contract with the club in March of this year.
Sogard has played 41 games (31 starts) at second base, 10 games (three starts) at third base, four games (three starts) at shortstop, one game at first base and five relief appearances on the mound for Chicago this season.
In all or part of 11 seasons with Oakland (2010-15), Milwaukee (2017-18, 2020), Toronto (2019), Tampa Bay (2019) and Chicago, Sogard has hit .247 (549-for-2,227) with 103 doubles, 11 triples, 26 home runs and 186 in 810 major league games.
