The New York Yankees today announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn to a Major League contract. He has been added to the club’s active roster.

Blackburn, 31, joins the Yankees after appearing in seven games (four starts) for the New York Mets this season, posting a 6.85 ERA with 18 strikeouts over 23.2 innings. He was designated for assignment by the Mets on August 16 and released on August 19.

A veteran of nine Major League seasons, Blackburn has compiled a career record of 22-31 with a 4.96 ERA across 93 games (86 starts) with the Oakland Athletics (2017–24) and New York Mets (2024–25). He earned American League All-Star honors in 2022 while with Oakland.

Originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round (56th overall) of the 2012 MLB Draft, the Antioch, California native was traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2016 and later to the Oakland Athletics, where he spent the bulk of his career. He was acquired by the Mets in a trade with Oakland on July 30, 2024.

To clear space on the active roster, the Yankees have optioned RHP Allan Winans to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
