The New York Yankees have announced that they have re-signed left-handed pitcher Tim Hill to a Major League contract for the 2025 season, with a club option for 2026.

Hill, 34, made 62 relief appearances in 2024, splitting his time between the Chicago White Sox and the Yankees. He compiled a 4-0 record with a 3.36 ERA (67.0 IP, 77 H, 32 R/25 ER, 19 BB, 31 K, 2 HR). Hill’s 69.5% groundball rate last season ranked second among Major League relievers (second in the AL). His 0.27 home runs per 9.0 IP also ranked third among left-handed relievers (second in the AL), and his career-high 67.0 innings pitched ranked ninth (fourth in the AL).
Hill began the 2024 season with the White Sox, going 1-0 with a 5.87 ERA (23.0 IP, 41 H, 19 R/15 ER, 10 BB, 13 K, 0 HR) in 27 relief appearances. After being released by the White Sox on June 18, he was signed by the Yankees on June 20 and added to the active roster. With the Yankees, Hill made 35 relief appearances, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.05 ERA (44.0 IP, 36 H, 13 R/10 ER, 9 BB, 18 K, 2 HR). He recorded four or more outs in 15 of his 35 appearances with the Yankees after only achieving four such outings in 27 games with the White Sox.
From his Yankees debut on June 20 through the end of the season, Hill ranked second among left-handed relievers (min. 30.0 IP) in innings pitched (44.0, first in the AL), fourth in ERA (2.05, third in the AL), eighth in opponents’ slugging percentage (.281, fifth in the AL), ninth in opponents’ OPS (.549, fifth in the AL), and 10th in opponents’ on-base percentage (.267, seventh in the AL) and WHIP (1.02, eighth in the AL).
Over parts of seven Major League seasons with the Kansas City Royals (2018-19), San Diego Padres (2020-23), White Sox (2024), and Yankees (2024), Hill has a career record of 20-14 with four saves and a 3.99 ERA (322.1 IP, 326 H, 176 R/143 ER, 103 BB, 239 K, 30 HR) over 382 relief appearances. Since 2018, his 28.9% inherited runners scored rate ranks seventh among Major League relievers. His 382 relief appearances since 2018 are the fifth-most among left-handed relievers. Hill has made at least 60 appearances in three seasons (70 G in 2018 with Kansas City, 78 G in 2021 with San Diego, and 62 G in 2024 with Chicago-AL/the Yankees).
Hill has appeared in the postseason three times in his career (2020 and ’22 with San Diego, and 2024 with the Yankees), compiling a 1-0 record with a 0.68 ERA (13.1 IP, 9 H, 3 R/1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 0 HR) in 16 relief appearances. He made 10 relief appearances with the Yankees in 2024, posting a 1.08 ERA (8.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R/1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 0 HR).
A native of Mission Hills, Calif., Hill was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 32nd round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Bacone College (Okla.). He was acquired by San Diego in a trade for RHP Ronald Bolaños and OF Franchy Cordero on July 16, 2020. Hill later signed a Major League contract with the White Sox on December 28, 2023.
