The New York Sirens have announced that defender Maja Nylén Persson has been placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR), effective retroactively to March 16. Nylén Persson sustained an upper-body injury during the team’s matchup against Minnesota.
As part of a corresponding roster adjustment, the Sirens have signed defender Olivia Knowles to a Standard Player Agreement. Knowles, a 26-year-old from Campbell River, BC, has already contributed in 10 games this season. She was previously on a 10-day contract, signed on March 19, and now joins the roster on a longer-term basis.
Nylén Persson, a standout in her debut season, played in the Sirens’ first 23 games, registering two goals and four assists. Before being drafted by New York in the second round (10th overall) of the 2024 PWHL Draft, the Swedish defender built an illustrious career. A three-time SDHL Defender of the Year, Nylén Persson led all defenders in points across the 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24 seasons. Beyond her domestic league achievements, she has proudly represented Sweden as a two-time Olympian and in five Women’s World Championships.
The Sirens look forward to Olivia Knowles stepping up and contributing to the team while Maja Nylén Persson focuses on her recovery.
