FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution today announced the signing of veteran midfielder Matt Polster to a new multi-year contract that will keep him in Foxborough through the 2027 Major League Soccer season.
“Matt Polster has been the heartbeat of our midfield for over five years,” said Sporting Director Curt Onalfo. “His leadership, work ethic, and tenacity set the tone for this club. Watching his evolution as a player and leader has been remarkable, and we’re excited to extend his journey with the Revolution.”
Polster, 31, owns 225 career MLS regular season appearances (202 starts), with 10 goals and 17 assists across stints with Chicago Fire FC, the Revolution, and internationally with Rangers FC in Scotland. Since joining New England in July 2020, he’s played a critical role in the club’s historic 2021 Supporters’ Shield campaign and the run to the 2020 Eastern Conference Final.
“I’m incredibly honored to continue my career in New England,” said Polster. “This club has become home for me and my family. I’m thankful for the belief shown by the organization and for the passion of our supporters. We’ve built something special here, and I’m determined to help bring an MLS Cup to this city.”
In 2025, Polster has started all eight matches and scored his first goal of the season in last week’s thrilling 3-3 comeback draw at Orlando City SC. He’s made 143 regular season appearances for New England (129 starts), including back-to-back 31-game seasons in 2023 and 2024.
Originally selected seventh overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by Chicago, Polster spent four seasons with the Fire before transferring to Rangers FC. He has also started eight MLS Cup Playoff matches in his career.
“Matt is one of the best leaders I’ve ever coached,” said Head Coach Caleb Porter. “He raises the standard every day in training and in games. Since returning from injury, his presence has been a massive lift. I’m thrilled he’ll be part of this team’s future.”
The Revolution return to Gillette Stadium on Saturday, May 17, to face the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. ET. The match will stream live on MLS Season Pass via the Apple TV app in English and Spanish. Listen locally on 98.5 The Sports Hub and Nossa Radio USA (1260 AM).
