NBA Preview: Toronto Raptors (2-6) vs Sacramento Kings (4-3)

The Toronto Raptors handed the Sacramento Kings their only loss on a four-game road trip, setting up a highly anticipated rematch on the West Coast this Wednesday.

Swingman RJ Barrett shined with 31 points, leading Toronto to a thrilling 131-128 overtime victory against Sacramento on Saturday. However, Barrett couldn’t replicate his heroics two nights later in Denver, missing a potential game-winning 27-footer over Russell Westbrook, allowing the Nuggets to escape with a 121-119 win.

Gradey Dick continues to make a strong case for the league’s Most Improved Player, boosting his scoring average from 8.5 points last season to 21.6 points across the Raptors’ first eight games of the 2024-25 season. Despite his impressive performance, the second-year guard will regret three crucial turnovers in the final minutes against Denver.

The Raptors led Denver by 11 points with six minutes left and were up by six just before center Jakob Poeltl fouled out in quick succession. Poeltl had delivered a solid performance with 24 points and 11 rebounds against Nikola Jokic.

Poeltl will need to bring his A-game against Kings big man Domantas Sabonis, who achieved his 60th career triple-double in their last meeting, surpassing Larry Bird for 10th on the all-time list. Sabonis’ tip-in forced overtime in their previous clash.

In Miami on Monday, Sabonis secured a 111-110 victory for Sacramento with a game-winning putback with 0.7 seconds remaining. The Kings overcame a 15-point deficit in the third quarter after some honest halftime discussions, finishing their road trip 3-1.

De’Aaron Fox led the Kings with 28 points, and DeMar DeRozan added 26. The stage is set for an exciting rematch as Sacramento looks to avenge their previous loss to Toronto.
