De’Aaron Fox has etched his name into NBA history by scoring an astounding 109 points over two nights. After a day of rest, Fox looks to continue his scoring spree as his Sacramento Kings host the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night.
Fox scored a franchise-record 60 points in Friday’s 130-126 overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He followed that up by scoring 49 points in the Kings’ 121-117 win over the Utah Jazz on Saturday.
Only two other players have scored at least 109 points in two consecutive days: legends Kobe Bryant (110 on March 22-23, 2007) and Wilt Chamberlain (15 times). Fox’s scoring outburst came despite the Kings being short-handed, missing DeMar DeRozan (back) and Malik Monk (ankle) against Minnesota and DeRozan, Monk, and Domantas Sabonis (back) against Utah.
Fox was remarkably efficient, making 22 of 35 shots from the field against the Timberwolves and 16 of 30 against the Jazz.
Despite his heavy workload, Fox said he didn’t feel tired, likening the back-to-back games to any other set. Kings coach Mike Brown marveled at Fox’s accomplishments.
Fox scored 31 points when the Kings defeated the Hawks 123-115 on November 1, marking Sacramento’s third consecutive win over Atlanta.
Trae Young led the Hawks with 25 points and 12 assists in that game.
On Sunday, the Hawks fell 114-110 to the Portland Trail Blazers in the opener of a four-game road trip. Young registered 29 points and eight assists, while Jalen Johnson scored 25 points. Young has nine 20-point outings this season, and Sunday’s game was the fourth time he’s made five or more three-pointers.
However, Young also committed six turnovers for the third straight game, contributing to Atlanta’s season-worst 27 turnovers, which led to 32 points for Portland.
Early season sensation Dyson Daniels contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists but struggled with 5-of-17 shooting and six turnovers.
Daniels has recorded six or more steals in each of the last four games, totaling 25 steals during that span. He scored 25 and 28 points in the two games before Sunday.
De’Andre Hunter, who recently returned from a knee injury, sat out against Portland on the front end of the back-to-back. He is expected to return against the Kings.
DeRozan and Monk will remain out for Sacramento, while Sabonis is listed as doubtful.
