FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution announced today the return of United States international goalkeeper Matt Turner on loan from Olympique Lyonnais of France’s Ligue 1. Turner will remain with the club through June 30, 2026, with an option to purchase. He will occupy a Designated Player slot for the remainder of the 2025 MLS season and transition to a TAM-eligible player in 2026.
Turner, 31, rejoins the Revolution—his first professional club—just ahead of the FIFA World Cup 26™, bringing elite experience and leadership to the squad.
🇺🇸 International Pedigree
Turner has earned 52 senior caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team, recording:
- 29 wins
- 27 clean sheets
- 14 shutouts in his first 20 caps (a USMNT record)
He was the starting goalkeeper at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and earned Golden Glove honors at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, where he posted five shutouts in six matches. That same year, he was runner-up for U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year, behind Christian Pulisic.
Revolution Legacy
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Fairfield University in 2016, Turner spent seven seasons with New England before transferring to Arsenal in 2022. His accolades include:

- MLS All-Star Game MVP
- Supporters’ Shield champion (2021)

- Arsenal FC – 5 UEFA Europa League starts, 2 FA Cup appearances
- Nottingham Forest – 21 starts, including 17 in the Premier League
- Crystal Palace FC – Backup during 2024–25 FA Cup-winning campaign; debuted with 8 saves in EFL Cup win over Aston Villa
- Olympique Lyonnais – Current parent club
Turner’s Homecoming
