LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated right-handed pitcher Blake Treinen and optioned right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius.
Treinen, 34, returns after missing 14 games on the injured list with right hip discomfort. He has appeared in 34 games with the Dodgers, going 5-3 with one save and a 2.67 ERA. He has 38 strikeouts in 30.1 innings while holding hitters to .212 batting average. He has been in the Majors 10 seasons with Washington (2014-17), Oakland (2017-19) and Los Angeles-NL (2020-24), and he is 41-34 with a 2.85 ERA in 483 games. He has 80 career saves with 542 strikeouts. He was drafted by the Athletics in the seventh round of the 2011 First Year Player Draft out of South Dakota State University.
Casparius, 25, did not make an appearance for the Dodgers since being selected on Sunday. He started the season with Tulsa, going 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA in five Double-A starts before being promoted to Triple-A on May 7. With the Oklahoma City club, he went 3-3 with a 3.54 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 56.0 innings. He has spent four minor league seasons in the Dodgers’ organization, going 13-17 with 335 strikeouts in 281.0 innings. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Connecticut.
