Kent State Lady Flashes drop Puerto Rico Clasico Finale to Colorado State Lady Rams, 60-54

BAYAMÓN, Puerto Rico – Kent State lost to Colorado State, 60-54, in its second and final game of the Puerto Rico Clasico on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Flashes (4-4) led by 10 at halftime but shot just 6-of-30 during the final 20 minutes as the three-game winning streak came to an end.

Junior Dionna Gray led Kent State with 13 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Senior Jenna Batsch joined her in double-figures with 10 points while also leading the way with five assists and two steals.

Colorado State scored the first five points of the contest and still led by five with a little more than two minutes left in the first quarter. Three-point shots by senior Bridget Dunn and Gray cut it to a 13-12 deficit after 10 minutes.

The Flashes went 5-of-8 from three-point range during the second period and took a 33-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The lead remained 10 following two free throws by Gray with 4:29 to play in the third, but eight straight missed shots followed as the Rams went on a 17-0 run. Kent State got within four points twice but was unable to make to complete the comeback.

Dunn grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for her fifth double-digit performance of the season.

The Flashes will next travel to Niagara on Dec. 5 before a 10-day break for final exams.
