KANSAS CITY – CPKC Stadium, the first stadium purpose-built for women’s professional soccer, has opened to incredible crowds and amazing soccer and this summer it will welcome some of the world’s best teams when The Women’s Cup (TWC) makes its debut in Kansas City. The four-team tournament will take place August 14 and 17 with the Kansas City Current, 2023 African Champion Mamelodi Sundowns, 2023 Copa de la Reina Champion Atlético de Madrid and Japanese powerhouse INAC Kobe Leonessa.
The Kansas City tournament is the second TWC USA tournament in 2024, following the Louisville edition. Both tournaments will feature a $100,000 prize pool.
“CPKC Stadium will be an incredible place to expand The Women’s Cup in the USA,” said JP Reynal, TWC chief executive officer. “Women’s football is growing across the globe and we are excited to bring the world’s best together to compete and showcase the beautiful game.”
“We are excited to welcome the world to CPKC Stadium,” said Kansas City Current President Raven Jemison. “We have opened the stadium to sold-out crowds and incredibly exciting football, and we can’t wait to host these world-class teams in Kansas City and show them why we are the Soccer Capital of America.”
The tournament will open with Atlético de Madrid playing INAC Kobe August 14 at 5 p.m. CT, with the Current facing the Sundowns at 8 p.m. CT. The winners will play for the Championship August 17 at 8 p.m. CT with the consolation match kicking off prior to that at 5 p.m. CT.
Season Ticket Members will have priority access to claim their same seat location for this tournament. Remaining inventory will then go on-sale to Current Club and public, if seats remain. Details will be communicated via email.
The summer edition of The Women’s Cup will follow February’s TWC Colombia event in Cali that featured Racing Louisville FC and reigning NWSL champions NJ/NY Gotham FC against Colombian powers América de Cali and Deportivo Cali. Gotham topped Racing in the TWC Colombia final.
The 2024 US tournaments are part of the new TWC Global Series, played in different locations. The champions of each event will be invited to play the Global Series Finals in February 2025 at a neutral site to be announced.
