Gotham FC Re-Signs Free Agents from Championship Roster

HARRISON, NJ – NJ/NY Gotham FC today announced that three free agents, who were a part of the 2023 NWSL Championship-winning campaign, have signed new contracts to remain with the club. The returning champions are midfielder McCall Zerboni, goalkeeper Michelle Betos, and midfielder Sinead Farrelly. All three players signed on through 2024, with Zerboni and Betos having options for 2025.

“We are incredibly happy to have these veterans choose to return to the club,” said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. “Having players with their experience allows us to continue to build on our culture at the club.”

Zerboni appeared in 21 matches, including 10 starts, scored two goals and notched one assist across all competitions in 2023 before suffering a season-ending injury in August. Since joining Gotham FC in 2020, the midfielder has appeared in 74 matches, recording 60 starts, 5,123 minutes, six goals, and three assists.

Betos will be entering her 15th professional season and her third season with Gotham FC. Last season, the goalkeeper was selected by her teammates to serve as a team leader for the 2023 season. Additionally, Betos was nominated by Gotham FC players for the Ally Award, which honors a player who embodies the spirit of the consummate teammate, inspiring rookies, and veterans alike.

Farrelly made a historic return and became a key game changer for Gotham FC in the 2023 season after nearly eight years away from the game. Across all competitions last season, Farrelly appeared in 23 games with nine starts, recording 1,039 minutes, and one assist. Additionally, she appeared in every 2023 NWSL Playoff game for the club, playing 68 minutes and a successful tackle rate of 72.4%, and her play for Gotham FC earned her a spot on the Irish Women’s National Team to compete in the first FIFA Women’s World Cup of her career.
