When, Where, and How to Watch?

Place: Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina

Date: June 13 to June 16, 2024

How to Watch: USA Network

Scottie Scheffler is arguably the best golfer in the world in 2024. He’s sitting at the top of the PGA Tour rankings, which is where he got after some brilliant performances over the last couple of months.

In the first half of the year, he earned just under $19 million. If he ended his 2024 campaign now, it would be the second most successful season of his career. And if he wins the U.S. Open, this is going to be his best year ever.

It’s not just about money, but also for prestige. He wants to win the U.S. Golf Championship as he’s never done it before. He did come very close on several occasions. Two years ago, he finished second, while last year he finished third.

The bad news for his fans is that he might not be 100% focused on the tournament for reasons having nothing to do with golf.

The thing is that he got arrested on May 17 and charged with reckless driving and second-degree assault of a police officer. His arrangement is just 10 days before the start of the 2024 U.S. Open and we suspect all this will have a negative impact on his performance at Pinehurst Resort.

Rory McIlroy is one of the most successful golfers of the 21st century. He’s got an incredibly rich trophy cabinet, having won dozens of prestigious tournaments. Among those is the U.S. Open. However, he won this tournament 13 years ago.

The greatest achievements of his career Rory McIlroy made last decade, which makes people think that he’s past his prime. This goes especially given that he turned 35 a few weeks ago.

On the bright side for the North Irish golfer, he’s been really good over the last year or so. Last year, for example, he finished as the runner-up of the U.S. Open, showing the world that he still has it in him.

History teaches us that betting upsets are relatively common at the U.S. Open. Last year, Wyndham Clark won the tournament despite coming to North Carolina as a +7000 underdog. A year before, the +2200 underdog Matthew Fitzpatrick did it. The last time the betting favorite won the U.S. Open was three years ago when +1000 favorite Jon Rahm won.
