Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. has announced the suspension of free agent pitcher Julio Urías through the conclusion of the 2025 All-Star break for violations of Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy. Urías will be eligible for reinstatement from the restricted list on July 17, 2025.

Commissioner Manfred’s Official Statement
Following an extensive investigation into the allegations, Commissioner Manfred issued the following statement regarding the disciplinary action: > “The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball has completed its investigation into allegations that free agent pitcher Julio Urías violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Urías violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate.”
Next Steps for Urías
As part of the disciplinary agreement, Urías will undergo an evaluation conducted by the Joint Policy Board, a committee established under the league’s collectively bargained policy. He will also be required to comply with any recommendations made by the board. Major League Baseball has confirmed that support services will continue to be made available to both Urías and his family during this period.
Commitment to Accountability
The suspension reinforces Major League Baseball’s ongoing commitment to upholding its policies and ensuring accountability for violations. The league continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its players, their families, and the broader community, while emphasizing the importance of adherence to its standards.
With Urías sidelined until mid-July 2025, the pitcher’s career now faces significant uncertainty, as he remains a free agent while serving his suspension. Major League Baseball will continue its work in addressing matters of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse through its policies and support programs.
