One thing is certain, Max Verstappen won’t break his record from last year when he won 19 of the 22 races. In the 2024 Formula 1, he’s already failed to win six races.
Three of those failures happened in the last three games. If he fails to win the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, it’s going to be his longest winless run since 2020. Judging by the F1 odds, it might happen.
Verstappen needs to calm himself down and work with his team to find the best strategy to deal with the competitors. He was visibly frustrated in the previous race, blaming his team for some poor decisions, after which he locked up into Lewis Hamilton’s car. As a result, he ended the race in 5th place, which was his worst finish at Hungaroring since 2020.
Now, he’s eager to bounce back and win the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, but bookies think it’s not going to be easy. Even though he’s the man who won each of the previous three installments of this event, Verstappen is not the main Belgian GP favorite. Instead, it’s Lando Norris.
Lando Norris did great in the F1 race in Hungary last weekend. He won the pole position and was in the lead until his team apparently instructed him to let his colleague Oscar Piastri win the race. As a result, both of them are in the top 5 in the 2024 F1 Drivers’ Championship standings.
Norris is second in the standings, but he’s still far behind Verstappen. In fact, the point gap is currently 76 points. What this means is that Norris would need to win the next four races to leapfrog him, and this would only be possible if Verstappen won no points along the way. Nevertheless, the season is long and if Norris keeps on driving great, he’ll have every right to start dreaming about the title.
