The Netherlands Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit, Ksa) has imposed penalties on three gambling influencers — Stiefunspeelt, Turcos, and Buurtwachtt — as part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal gambling promotions.
Stricter Enforcement Against Influencers
The action follows the Ksa’s earlier pledge to take tougher measures against influencers, who often reach younger and more vulnerable audiences. Regulators say this makes it critical to curb content that glamorizes or encourages illegal gambling.
Violations and Penalties
The three influencers posted videos on their social media channels featuring gambling with unlicensed providers and urged followers to do the same. Despite prior warnings from the Ksa that such promotions are prohibited, they continued the activity.
As a result, the Ksa has ordered them to:
- Remove all existing illegal gambling content within 48 hours
- Cease creating new advertisements for unlicensed operators
Failure to comply will trigger fines of €25,000 per violation, up to a maximum of €75,000 per influencer.
Protecting Young Audiences
The Ksa stressed that protecting young people from exposure to illegal gambling remains a top priority. If influencers fail to act, the regulator will also involve social media platforms directly to ensure the content is taken down swiftly.
