The Chicago Cubs have announced that right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts has been called up from Triple-A Iowa, while left-handed pitcher Justin Steele has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow tendinitis (retroactive to April 8).

Roberts, 27, has impressed with 4.1 scoreless innings over three games with the Iowa Cubs this season, striking out eight batters without issuing a walk. In 2024, Roberts split his time across the Cubs, Triple-A Iowa, and Double-A Tennessee, appearing in 21 major league games. He finished the season with a 1-1 record and a 3.71 ERA over 26.2 innings pitched.
Steele, 29, has started four games for Chicago this year, posting a 3-1 record and a 4.76 ERA across 22.2 innings, with 21 strikeouts and just five walks. After losing his season opener in Tokyo, Steele bounced back with a 3-0 record and a 3.38 ERA across his next three starts. He delivered a standout performance against Texas on Monday at Wrigley Field, pitching 7.0 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and no walks.
