SWAC OPENING KICKOFF

• The Alabama A&M Bulldogs and the Alabama State Hornets will meet in the annual Magic City Classic on Saturday at Legion Field. The game is set to be broadcast live on ESPNU at 2:30 pm CST. • Last weekend the Jackson State Tigers snapped a Florida A&M Rattlers 17- game conference winning streak. • Week Nine of the season features a total of five conference games and one non-conference outing. • Jackson State will travel to face Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at 2:00 pm in a game that will be broadcast live on HBCU GO. • Florida A&M successfully defended its FCS second-longest home winning streak against South Carolina State winning 22-18 on August 31, making it 21 wins in a row at Bragg. • The Week Nine SWAC Digital Network schedules features Mississippi Valley State at Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 2:00 pm and Grambling State at Texas Southern at 6:00 pm. • The 2024 SWAC Football Championship is set for Saturday, Dec. 7

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CO-Offensive

Irv Mulligan led the rushing attack for Jackson State with 138 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. He averaged 7.8 yards per rush and scored on a run of 51 yards in the first quarter that put the Tigers ahead at the time.

Co-Offensive

Kendric Rhymes led the rushing attack for Southern with 133 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. He averaged 7.7 yards per rush and scored on a run of 51 yards that put the Jaguars ahead 24-14 subsequently sealing the game.

Defensive

Andrew Jones was once again a dominant force for the GSU defense. He tallied a game-high 12 total tackles with 4.5 for loss during the Tigers’ 31-21 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The losses dropped ball carriers 23 yards, and included a half-sack as well as a fourth-down stop that forced a change of possession

Specialist

Johnny Schifano had a big day punting the ball for Grambling, flipping the field and pinning UAPB deep in its own territory on Saturday. He punted the ball six times for an average of 42.0 yards per punt, with a long of 60 yards. He placed five punts inside the Lions’ 15-yard line with two punts being downed at the 1- yard line and one being downed at the 5-yard line.
