SWAC OPENING KICKOFF
• Grambling State will travel to face Alabama A&M on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7:00 pm live on ESPNU. • The Jackson State Tigers are currently ranked No. 20 in the AFCA Coaches Poll. • The Jackson State Tigers snapped a Florida A&M Rattlers 17-game conference winning streak on Saturday, October 19. • Week Twelve of the season features a total of six conference games and no non-conference outings. • Mississippi Valley State will travel to face Florida A&M on Saturday at 12:00 pm in a game that will be broadcast live on HBCU GO. • Florida A&M successfully defended its FCS second-longest home winning streak against Texas Southern winning 52-28 on November 2, making it 23 wins in a row at Bragg. • The Week twelve SWAC Digital Network schedules features Bethune-Cookman at Texas Southern on Saturday at 2:00 pm. • The 2024 SWAC Football Championship is set for Saturday, Dec. 7.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama A&M’s Donovan Eaglin, Grambling State’s Andrew Jones along with Jackson State Gerardo Baeza and Travis Terrell Jr,. for SWAC Football Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of regular season competition.
Offensive
Eaglin became the second FCS player to score five touchdowns in a game this season, fueling Alabama A&M’s 52-24, SWAC triumph at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Across three quarters of action, he carried the ball 26 times for 148 yards, first scoring from 17 yards out early in the second quarter before later rushing for four consecutive TDs (18, 2, 3 and 3 yards) while averaging 5.7 yards per carry.
Defensive
Jones, a redshirt-junior from Marrero, La, was a significant contributor on the field on during Saturday’s 24-23 Grambling State victory over Alabama State. He tallied 14 total tackles, seven solo stops and 2.0 tackles for loss.
Specialist
Baeza was perfect in a 51-14 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday, connecting on all of his field goals and all six of his extra point attempts. He connected on field goals of 23, 26, and 28 yards in the first half.
Newcomer
Terrell finished the day averaging 18.5 yards per punt return with a long of 42 yards and 29.0 yards per kickoff return in a 51-14 victory over Mississippi Valley State. He also finished the game with 63 yards on six carries to go along with a pair of touchdowns in the game while averaging 10.5 yards per carry.
