Offensive Player of the Week
Phil Lutz | WR | Delaware
Lutz made five receptions for 133 yards (26.6 ypr), including a record-setting 56-yard TD catch, in Delaware’s 44-21 win over Maine. It was the third 100+-yard receiving eff ort of the season for Lutz, who set a UD program record by catching a TD pass for a sixth straight game. He ranks 2nd in the CAA with 547 receiving yards and 8 TD’s.
Defensive Player of the Week
Josiah Silver | DE | New Hampshire
Silver recorded seven tackles, including a career-high tying 4.0 sacks and 5.0 TFL’s, in UNH’s 17-10 road win at Elon. The four sacks are tied for the most in FCS this season and were part of a nine-sack outing by the Wildcats’ defense, which held EU to 231 total yards and no points over the final three quarters. He’s Ɵ ed for the FCS lead with 7.5 sacks
Special Teams Player of the Week
Gabe Salomons | LB | Rhode Island
Salomons blocked a game-tying 37-yard fi eld goal attempt with 8:44 to go to help secure Rhode Island’s 31-21 victory over Brown. The Rams were able to drive 80 yards for a TD on the ensuing possession. Along with the blocked kick, Salomons recorded six tackles, 2.0 TFL’s and a half-sack, including a key stop on a 4th-and-1 play.
Rookie of the Week
Cole Nilles | LB | Bryant
Nilles contributed a career-high 13 tackles, a TFL and a quarterback hurry in Bryant’s 17-10 setback to UAlbany. He led a Bulldogs’ defense that limited UAlbany to 341 yards and forced two turnovers. Nilles has made 21 stops over the past two games and leads Bryant with 39 tackles and 5.0 TFL’s.

FULL SLATE OF CONFERENCE GAMES IN WEEK 8:
For the first time all season, the weekly schedule includes nothing but conference games. Highlighting the slate are two matchups featuring four of the five teams unbeaten in league play as Rhode Island travels to New Hampshire and Richmond hosts Delaware. The fifth unbeaten squad, Villanova, visits Maine, while Towson entertains Stony Brook. Rounding out the schedule, Monmouth welcomes Bryant, Campbell heads to William & Mary, UAlbany meets Elon, and Hampton faces North Carolina A&T before a sellout crowd in Greensboro.
ROAD SUCCESS IN EARLY CAA ACTION:
Through 17 conference games this season, road teams have posted a 10-7 record.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS:
CAA teams are an impressive 31-14 (.689) this season against FCS non-conference opponents. Five squads (Delaware, Rhode Island, Stony Brook, Villanova and William & Mary) are undefeated vs. FCS non-conference foes.
FIVE CAA TEAMS RANKED IN TOP 25:
Five CAA teams are ranked in the Stats Perform and AFCA Coaches Top 25 polls. Villanova is ranked #5 in both polls, while William & Mary is ranked #15 by Stats and #16 by the AFCA. Richmond moved up to #15 in the AFCA poll and #18 in the Stats poll, Rhode Island rose to #16 in the Stats poll and #17 in the AFCA poll, and New Hampshire is ranked #19 by the AFCA and #24 by Stats. Monmouth and Stony Brook received votes in both polls, and Towson got votes in the Stats poll. Hampton was ranked #6 in the HBCU FCS Coaches and Media polls, administered by BOXTOROW.
NATIONAL HONORS:
Four CAA players have received National Player of the Week recognition this season. On Oct. 7, Hampton quarterback Malcolm Mays was named the HBCU+ FCS Player of the Week and Villanova running back David Avit was chosen as the Stats Perform FCS National Freshman of the Week. Elon’s TJ Thomas was chosen as the National Freshman Player of the Week on Sept. 9 and Stony Brook’s Roland Dempster was the National Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30.
LEADING THE NATION:
Monmouth quarterback Derek Robertson leads FCS in passing yards (339.5 ypg) and total offense (340.0 ypg). Bryant’s Landon Ruggieri tops the nation in receiving TD’s (9). Monmouth’s Sone Ntoh is first in rushing TD’s (13). Richmond’s Jeremiah Grant and UNH’s Josiah Silver are tied for first in FCS in sacks (7.5) and William & Mary’s Jalen Jones is #1 in FCS in passes defended (13).
TEAM NOTES
UALBANY 3-3 Overall/1-1 CAAFB
• UA recorded 7.0 sacks in its win at Bryant. Chiebuka Aduaka led the way with 2 sacks, but six different players had at least one. • Myles Burkett threw for 183 yards and 2 TD’s and added a team-high 57 rushing yards at Bryant. He ranks 19th in FCS in passing (228.5 ypg) and 8 TD throws. • Levi Wentz made four catches for a season-high 106 yards at BU and has had at least three receptions in the last four games. • UA has allowed just 13.5 ppg over the past two contests.
BRYANT 2-4 Overall/0-2 CAAFB
• Landon Ruggieri had 3 catches for 50 yards vs. UA, including a TD grab for the 5th straight game. He tops FCS in receiving TD’s (9) and ranks 7th in receiving yards (599). • Jarrett Guest threw for 233 yards and 2 TD’s vs. UA. It was his 5th straight game with 230+ yards and he ranks 7th in FCS in passing yards (265.3 ypg). • Fabrice Mukendi ran for a team-high 90 yards vs. UA and had 40 receiving yards. • Cole Nilles made a career-high 13 tackles vs. UA and tops Bryant with 39 stops.
CAMPBELL 2-4 Overall/0-2 CAAFB
• Sincere Brown ranks 14th in FCS in receiving yards (524) and 11th in receiving TD’s (5). He’s topped 100 receiving yards in 3 games. • Chad Mascoe ranks 16th in FCS in pass efficiency (151.7). He has thrown for over 300 yards twice and has 7 TD passes. • WR VJ Wilkins scored on a 55-yard run vs. NCCU. He’s 2nd on the team with 214 receiving yards and has 107 rushing yards. • Jalen Brooks had 7 tackles and his first interception vs. NCCU. He tops CU with 48 stops.
DELAWARE 6-0 Overall/3-0 CAAFB
• Delaware is one of four remaining unbeaten teams in FCS. The Blue Hens are 6-0 for the first time since the spring 2021 season. • Phil Lutz set a UD record last week with a TD catch in his 6th straight game. He’s 3rd in FCS with 8 TD’s and 10th nationally with 547 receiving yards. • Zach Marker has passed for 760 yards and 9 TD’s with 0 int. over the past 3 games. • KT Seay recorded his team-leading 3rd interception vs. Maine, which ranks 7th in FCS. He also had 19 tackles and 2 PBU’s.
ELON 1-5 Overall/0-2 CAAFB
• Elon plays its first road game since Sept. 7 this week at UAlbany and competes outside of North Carolina for the first time. • TJ Thomas ran for 78 yards and a TD vs. UNH and has scored a TD (4 rush, 1 rec) in EU’s last five games. He tops the team in rushing with 444 yards. • Senquavious Alsobrooks made a career-high 10 tackles and 2.0 TFL’s vs. UNH as Elon held the Wildcats to 151 total yards. • Jeff Yurk is 4th in FCS with a 47.5 punting average. He has 12 punts of 50+ yards.
HAMPTON 3-3 Overall/0-2 CAAFB
• QB Malcolm Mays was 24-of-28 passing for 253 yards and 4 TD’s and ran for 37 yards and a TD vs. URI. He was named the HBCU+ FCS Player of the Week. • Brennan Ridley set career-highs with 8 catches for 121 yards and 2 TD’s vs. URI. He leads HU with 23 receptions for 301 yards. • Hampton ranks 24th in FCS in rushing (189.0 ypg). The Pirates have run for over 170 yards in four of their six games. • Corey Yeoman made a team-high 7 tackles vs. URI and leads HU with 31 stops.
MAINE 3-3 Overall/1-2 CAAFB
• Maine plays its first home game since Sept. 14 this week against Villanova. • Xavier Holmes made a career-high 13 tackles, 2.0 TFL’s and 1.5 sacks at Delaware. The 13 tackles were the most for a UM player since 2021. • Montigo Moss has made at least 3 catches in every game this season and leads UM with 28 receptions for 317 yards. • Carter Peevy has passed for over 200 yards in three of the past five games. He also has three-game with multiple TD passes.
MONMOUTH 3-3 Overall/1-1 CAAFB
• Derek Robertson is 4th in FCS in passing yards (2,037) and 2nd in passing TD’s (18). He has thrown for 355+ yds and at least 2 TD’s in five of MU’s six games. • TJ Speight (6 rec., 133 yds., 1 TD) and Gavin Nelson (5 rec., 131 yds., 1 TD) set career-highs for receiving yards against Delaware. • Monmouth leads FCS in total offense (515.7 ypg), passing offense (338.5 ypg) and scoring offense (42.7 ppg). • Ryan Moran went over 200 career tackles after making 10 stops against UD.
UNH 4-2 Overall/2-0 CAAFB
• UNH recorded 9.0 sacks in last week’s win at Elon. Josiah Silver tallied a career-high 4.0 sacks and leads FCS with 7.5 for the year. • Logan Tomlinson made 5 catches for 39 yards and a TD at EU and added a rushing TD. He leads UNH with 40 receptions for 448 yards and 5 TD’s. • Seth Morgan has thrown for 250+ yards three times. He’s 23rd in FCS in passing (223.3 ypg) and 7th in pass TD’s (15). • Wande Owens made a team-high 10 tackles at EU and leads the team with 55.
NORTH CAROLINA A&T 1-5 Overall/0-2 CAAFB
• Justin Fomby was 22-of-27 passing for a season-high 261 yards and 2 TD’s at UR. It was his 2nd straight game with 200+ yards. • TE Anthony Rucker set career-highs with 8 catches for 91 yards and 2 TD’s at UR. • Ger-Cari Caldwell set season-bests with 7 catches for 130 yards at UR. It was his third game with at least five receptions. • Terrell Dudley made 11 tackles at Richmond. • Andrew Brown is 10-for-11 on FG’s, including two FG’s of over 50 yards.
RHODE ISLAND 5-1 Overall/2-0 CAAFB
• Beat Brown, 31-21, last week to claim their 6th straight Governors Cup. It was the 3rd game in a row and 4th Ɵ me this season that URI has won after trailing in the 4th quarter. • Devin Farrell threw for 244 yards and a TD and ran for 65 yards and a TD vs. Brown. It was his 3rd career 200+ yard passing effort. • Marquis Buchanan made 9 catches for a season-high 107 yards and a TD vs. Brown. He leads URI with 28 rec. for 391 yards. • Cole Brockwell leads the CAA and is 15th in FCS with 9.5 tackles per game
RICHMOND 4-2 Overall/2-0 CAAFB
• On a 4-game winning streak after holding off N.C. A&T, 20-17. UR is 2-0 in CAA play for the first time in a full season since 2015. • Zach Palmer-Smith ran for a career-high 200 yards and a TD vs. A&T. He’s the first UR player since 2015 to run for 150+ yds in 3 straight games (523 yards in those games). • Andrew King had a career-high 100 rushing yards on 6 att. vs. A&T, becoming the first UR true freshman to reach 100 since 2016. • Jeremiah Grant leads FCS with 7.5 sacks and has had at least a half-sack in 5 of 6 games.
STONY BROOK 4-2 Overall/1-1 CAAFB
• Had their 4-game winning streak come to an end after a 42-24 loss to #6 Villanova. • Roland Dempster ran for 115 yards and 3 TD’s vs. VU, which was his 4th game with 110+ yards and 2+ TD’s. He’s 9th in FCS in rushing (700 yds) and 3rd with 12 TD’s. • TE Cal Redman had 3 catches for 50 yards vs. VU and has led SBU in receiving yards for the past two contests. • Rushawn Lawrence tops SBU with 5.5 TFL’s and 3.5 sacks. He was one of four SBU players with at least a half-sack against VU.
TOWSON 3-3 Overall/1-1 CAAFB
• Recorded back-to-back wins for the first time under coach Pete Shinnick after a 28- 23 victory at Norfolk State last week. • Sean Brown threw for a career-high 306 yards and 3 TD’s at NSU. It was the first 300- yard effort for a Towson QB since 2019. • Tyrell Greene, Jr. ran for 63 yards at NSU. He’s averaging 7.0 ypc and has 290 rushing yards over the past three games. • Will Middleton had 6 tackles and 2 PBU’s at NSU. He leads the Tigers with 40 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 5 QB hurries.
VILLANOVA 5-1 Overall/2-0 CAAFB
• Rallied past Stony Brook, 42-24, on Oct. 5. It was VU’s first win when trailing at the half since 2021, ending a 9-game streak. • David Avit ran for a career-high 183 yards and 4 TD’s at SBU. It was the most yards ever for a VU freshman and he has 343 yards and 5 TD’s in the past 2 games. • Connor Watkins has thrown for 839 yards and 6 TD’s with 0 interceptions and has added 259 yards and 3 TD’s rushing. • Brendan Bell made a career-high 15 tackles with 2.5 TFL’s and a sack at Stony Brook.
WILLIAM & MARY 4-2 Overall/1-1 CAAFB
• Had a 3-game winning streak snapped after a 34-27 setback at Towson on Oct. 5. • Bronson Yoder rushed for 84 yards and a TD at TU and has run for 509 yards and 5 TD’s over the past four games. • W&M ranks 3rd in FCS in rushing with 264.0 ypg. The Tribe has run for over 140 yards in each game and 200+ yds. in four contests. • Jalen Jones made his 2nd interception and recorded his FCS-best 11th pass breakup at Towson. He leads the nation with 13 passes defended for the season.
