QUICK HITS
POLL WATCHERS: The Pac-12 has 6 teams ranked in the AP Poll, the 7th straight week with at least 6 teams in the top 25. Going back to last season, the Pac-12 has had 6 or more teams ranked in 13 of the last 14 polls (there were 5 ranked teams in this year’s preseason poll). Between 2011 and 2021, the Pac-12 had 13 polls total where 6 teams appeared in the Top 25. The first CFP rankings of the season will be released on Tuesday, October 31.
MINDING AYO-MANOR: Stanford WR Elic Ayomanor had the break-out game of his young career in Friday’s double overtime win at Colorado by hauling in 13 receptions for a school-record 294 yards and 3 scores on his way to be named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week and the national Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week. The 294 yards are the 2nd most ever by a Pac-12 player, trailing only the 345 by USC’s Marqise Lee against UCLA in 2012. In his first 5 games this season, the sophomore had 15 receptions for 207 yards and 1 touchdown after not appearing in a game last season as a true freshman.
TOP DAWGS: The first ever Top 10 meeting in the history of the Oregon-Washington rivalry saw the Huskies prevail 36-33 with Michael Penix, Jr. hitting Rome Odunze with the gamewinning 18-yard TD pass with 1:38 remaining in the 4th quarter. Penix, Jr. finished with 302 passing yards and 4 touchdowns and has now topped 300 yards passing in 16 of his 19 career games with the Huskies. For his efforts, the senior QB was named both the Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week, becoming the first player to win either award twice this season.
ALL-EVERYTHING: Hitting the halfway point of the season, 7 major publications (Associated Press, The Athletic, ESPN, FOX Sports, Sporting News, CBS Sports and USA Today) released their Midseason All-American teams.
Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. was named the top quarterback in the country on all 7 lists. Penix is currently ranked in the top 5 in the country in passing yards per game (1st), passing yards total (2nd), yards per pass attempt (2nd), total offense (2nd), passing efficiency (3rd), and passing TD (4th).
Teammate Rome Odunze was named on 6 of the 7 lists including the 1st team on 4 of them (AP, FOX Sports, Sporting News and USA Today). Odunze is currently 2nd in the country in receiving yards per game (122.7 YPG), 4th in total receiving yards (736) and 14th in receiving touchdowns (6).
