CONFERENCE NEWS AND NOTES:
The Big 12 has six games this week as TCU and Texas Tech are the last two teams with a bye.
Kansas will host FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff for the first time on Saturday ahead of the Jayhawks’ contest against Oklahoma. It will mark the fifth week this season for one of the national pregame shows to appear at a Big 12 game.
No. 6/6 Oklahoma and No. 7/7 Texas remain ranked in the top 10 in the national polls. K-State, Oklahoma State and Kansas received votes.
Oklahoma is one of nine teams still undefeated after eight weeks of play.
Oklahoma and Texas have reached bowl eligibility. Four other teams are one win away.
Five Big 12 teams (BYU, Kansas, K-State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State,
Texas) are undefeated at home this season. In conference games, the home team holds a 17-11 advantage.
Among conferences, the Big 12 is first in rushing yards per game (169.9), second in total yards (424.3) and third in passing yards (254.4) and scoring (30.8).
The Big 12 is tied for the lead among conferences with 45 individual 100-yard rushing games.
Three Power 5 schools nationally have multiple players with 3+ interceptions — all hailing from the Big 12: BYU (2), Houston (2) and Iowa State (2).
The Big 12 leads the nation with a fourth (7-28) of the teams that are averaging 100% or over in home stadium capacity. Oklahoma is third
among teams at 104.60% capacity followed by 4. K-State (104.25), 5. TCU (103.43), 10. Cincinnati (101.85), 14. Texas (100.81), 21. Baylor (100.22) and T23. Oklahoma State (100.0). All Big 12 teams are averaging over 88 percent capacity.
Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II (offensive), BYU’s Eddie Heckard (defensive), Oklahoma’s Nic Anderson (newcomer) and Baylor’s Isaiah Hankins (special teams) picked up Big 12 football awards for week eight. Gordon earned his second consecutive accolade while Anderson was also recognized for the second time this season. Additionally, Gordon collected his second straight Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week award.
The Big 12 finished regular season non-conference play at 30-12 (.714).
Baylor sophomore PK Isaiah Hankins had a career-high four field goals against Cincinnati, connecting from 43, 43, 46 and a career-long 54 yards.
He is the first Bear with four field goals in a game since 2017 and ninth total in program history.
BYU finished +5 in turnover margin with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries as the offense protected the ball with zero giveaways vs. TTU.
The margin marked highest for the Cougars since Nov. 2, 2019.
QB John Rhys Plumlee’s 86-yard play action touchdown pass to Javon Baker stands as the longest play of the season for UCF and is the longest play in the Big 12 this year, topping the previous best which was also held by UCF, a 79-yard TD run by Johnny Richardson against Baylor on Sept. 30.
Myles Montgomery and Xzavier Henderson each scored two touchdowns against Baylor to mark the first time Cincinnati has reached this feat since
2021 against SMU.
Through seven games, Donovan Smith has completed 177 passes for the most at Houston since David Piland (202) in 2012. Smith’s four interceptions are tied with Clayton Tune (2022) for the fewest by a Cougar (min. 150 attempts) through seven games over the last five seasons.

K-State’s Jayce Brown had four receptions for 88 yards and his first-career touchdown. It was the most receiving yards by a true freshman since Deuce Vaughn went for 129 yards at Oklahoma in 2020.
Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel threw three touchdowns against UCF to bring his career total to 114, which is tied with former Florida QB Danny Wuerffel for the 15th most in FBS history. He has thrown 44 TD passes in 19 games at OU (19 this year).
Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon II rushed for four touchdowns against West Virginia to become the first Cowboy to do so since Rennie Childs on September 17, 2016, against Pittsburgh. The sophomore rushed for 282 yards for the most rushing yards by a Cowboy since Chuba Hubbard scampered for 296 yards against Kansas State on September 28, 2019.
TCU’s Namdi Obiazor had a career-high and team-best 13 tackles against K-State, including a sack. His previous best was 11 against SMU earlier this season.
Texas RB Jonathon Brooks rushed for 99 yards against Houston to bring his season total to 825 yards, seventh-most in the nation.
Texas Tech RB Tahj Brooks logged his fifth 100-yard game in the last six contests. It was the ninth 100-yard game of his career as he matched his career-high with 31 rushing attempts for 105 rushing yards.
West Virginia QB Garrett Greene threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns while adding 117 yards on the ground. He has thrown for at least 200 yards in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.
