Lone Star Conference football’s Week 1 slate featured all non-conference games. Eastern New Mexico prevailed to start its season 2-0 and is now the league’s only undefeated team. Western New Mexico topped Adams State for its first victory of the year. Texas A&M-Kingsville had the only bye.
The highest offensive output in Week1 was Midwestern State with 440 yards on the road against nationally-ranked Western Colorado. Defensively, No. 24 Angelo State surrendered just 252 yards on the road against Emporia State.
Week 2 will feature eight games – all on Saturday – with ENMU at Angelo State as the only conference game. Midwestern State has the only bye.

OFFENSIVE
Jamon Chambers, Western New Mexico, RB, Sr., Kinesiology, Federal Way, Wash.
Western New Mexico senior running back Jamon Chambers ran for 138 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to a 46-36 road win over Adams State. Chambers found the end zone twice in the first quarter – one from 18 yards out – to set the tone for WNMU’s first victory of the season. He also caught two passes for 60 yards.
DEFENSIVE
DJ Moore, Eastern New Mexico, DE, So., Sports Medicine, Carlsbad, N.M.
Eastern New Mexico sophomore defensive end DJ Moore had six tackles – four solo and three for a loss of 17 yards – to go along with a career-best two sacks to help fuel Eastern New Mexico’s 36-17 win over Sul Ross State. Moore also had a quarterback hurry in the victory that improved the Greyhounds to 2-0. He led a unit that did not allow a touchdown in the first half.

Jaiden Burnett, Midwestern State, KR, So., Undecided, Frisco, Texas
Midwestern State sophomore returner Jaiden Burnett set a program record with a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown during the Mustangs’ road game against nationally-ranked Western Colorado. Burnett’s score came in the second quarter to cut the Mustangs’ deficit to 21-18. It is tied for the longest kick return for a TD in NCAA Division II this season. He returned another kick 17 yards and caught a pass on offense.
