Bruins Clinch Eighth Straight Playoff Berth, One Year After Record-Setting Season

Four rounds of #NHLStats as the Bruins search for their seventh Stanley Cup and first since 2011:

David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand, who lead Boston into its first postseason appearance without Patrice Bergeron since 2008, can continue to climb the franchise lists for career playoff goalsassists and points.

* Marchand, the only current Boston player that won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011, will make the 12th playoff appearance of his NHL career and first as Bruins captain. Notable players in the League’s expansion era (since 1967-68) who captained a Cup-winning club in their first season wearing the “C” for that team include Rod Brind’Amour (2006 CAR), Wayne Gretzky (1984 EDM), Denis Potvin (1980 NYI), Serge Savard (1979 MTL) and Yvan Cournoyer (1976 MTL). Of note, Savard served as acting captain of the 1977 Canadiens during the postseason while Cournoyer was injured.

* Pastrnak, Marchand and Charlie McAvoy are three of the 14 current Boston players who dressed at least one game with the Bruins in the 2023 First Round, where they fell to the Panthers after setting a single-season NHL record for wins. Boston can become the fifth team in the last six seasons to make it to the Stanley Cup Final after winning the Presidents’ Trophy in the previous campaign. It would join Washington (2018 SC Winner), Tampa Bay (2020 SC Winner), Colorado (2022 SC Winner) and Florida (2023 SC Finalist).

Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark can become the sixth and seventh goaltenders to win the Stanley Cup after winning the William M. Jennings Trophy the season prior. They would join: Patrick Roy (1993 w/ MTL), Chris Osgood (1997 w/ DET), Mike Vernon (1997 w/ DET), Dominik Hasek (2002 w/ DET) and Braden Holtby (2018 w/ WSH).
