BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Chase Shugart and infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester.
Shugart, 27, made his Major League debut on August 15 against the Baltimore Orioles, recording two strikeouts over 2.2 innings. The right-hander has also pitched in 32 games (five starts) with Worcester this season, going 5-2 with one save, a 4.55 ERA (33 ER/65.1 IP), and 77 strikeouts. Originally selected by Boston in the 12th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has posted a 4.70 ERA (197 ER/377.0 IP) in 159 career minor league games (50 starts).
Valdez, 25, has hit .224 (38-for-170) with 12 doubles, six home runs, and 27 RBI in 60 games for Boston this season, making 47 starts at second base and one as the designated hitter. In 50 games this season for Worcester, the left-handed hitter has batted .233 (45-for-193) with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. Originally signed by the Houston Astros as an international free agent in July 2015, the Dominican Republic native has hit .243 (75-for-309) in 109 career Major League games, all with Boston (2023-24).
