Boston Red Sox Place Wilyer Abreu on Injured List; Promote Jhostynxon Garcia from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox have placed outfielder Wilyer Abreu on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to August 18, due to a right calf strain. In a corresponding move, the club has recalled outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia from Triple-A Worcester. Garcia will join the Major League roster wearing No. 51.

Abreu, 26, has appeared in 108 games this season, batting .253 (89-for-352) with 22 home runs and 69 RBI. A left-handed hitter, he’s made 90 starts in right field and one as designated hitter. Originally signed by the Houston Astros as an international free agent in July 2017, the Venezuela native owns a career MLB batting line of .259 (214-for-827) with 55 doubles, two triples, 39 home runs, and 141 RBI across 268 games, all with Boston since debuting in 2023.

Garcia, 22, is currently ranked No. 3 in the Red Sox farm system and No. 77 overall by MLB.com. The right-handed outfielder has split the 2025 season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, compiling a .289 average (110-for-381), 20 home runs, 73 RBI, and an .875 OPS over 99 games. Defensively, he’s made 73 starts in center field, along with appearances in right, left, first base, and as designated hitter.

Signed by Boston as an international free agent in July 2019, Garcia has played 355 career minor league games, hitting .267 with 67 doubles, 21 triples, 54 home runs, 207 RBI, and 249 runs scored.
