Club Recalls Infielder/Outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox have placed infielder Alex Bregman on the Paternity Leave List and recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester to fill his spot on the active roster.

Bregman, 31, has been a key contributor this season, batting .321 (25-for-78) with seven doubles, four home runs, and 16 RBI in 19 starts at third base. The right-handed slugger had a standout performance last night in Tampa Bay, going 5-for-5 with two home runs and a double, marking the first five-hit game of his career. A New Mexico native, Bregman was selected by the Houston Astros with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft. Over his 1,130-game career with the Astros (2016-24) and Red Sox (2025), he has posted a .273 batting average (1,157-for-4,235) with an .850 OPS, 704 runs scored, 272 doubles, 18 triples, 195 home runs, and 679 RBI.

Sogard, 27, has appeared in 12 games for Worcester this season, batting .159 (7-for-44) while making five starts at shortstop, three at third base, two at first base, and one each at second base and right field. A switch-hitter, Sogard made his MLB debut with the Red Sox in 2024, playing in 31 games and hitting .273 (21-for-77) with four doubles and eight RBI. He made 11 starts at second base and six each at shortstop and third base. Originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native joined Boston via a four-player trade on February 17, 2021.
