Boston Red Sox make series of roster moves ahead of Weekend slate

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced several roster transactions:

  • Signed 1B Nathaniel Lowe to a one-year contract for the remainder of the 2025 season. He will wear jersey number 37.
  • Placed OF Rob Refsnyder on the 10-Day Injured List (retroactive to August 15) due to a left oblique strain.
  • Recalled INF/OF Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester.
  • Designated C Ali Sánchez for assignment.

Nathaniel Lowe Joins Boston

Lowe, 30, arrives from the Washington Nationals, where he appeared in 119 games this season—113 at first base and three as designated hitter—batting .216 (95-for-440) with 16 home runs and 68 RBI. A Virginia native, Lowe was originally drafted by Tampa Bay in 2016 and won a World Series with Texas in 2023, earning both a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger during his tenure with the Rangers. Over 805 career MLB games with the Rays, Rangers, and Nationals, he owns a .263 average, .346 OBP, and .770 OPS with 105 home runs and 397 RBI.

Rob Refsnyder to IL

Refsnyder, 34, heads to the injured list after batting .272 with an .828 OPS across 54 games this season. He’s made 36 starts split between right field, left field, and designated hitter. A fifth-round pick by the Yankees in 2012, the South Korea native has played for seven MLB clubs, including Boston since 2022, and holds a career .255 average over 525 games.

Nate Eaton Recalled

Eaton, 28, returns to the Red Sox after batting .250 in 14 games earlier this season. At Triple-A Worcester, he’s posted a .290 average and .856 OPS across 94 games while playing six defensive positions. A versatile utility option, Eaton was drafted by Kansas City in 2018 and has 86 career MLB games under his belt with the Royals and Red Sox.
