Boston Red Sox finalizes four roster transactions

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Reinstated right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten from the 60-Day Injured List.
  • Reinstated outfielder Rob Refsnyder from the 10-Day Injured List.
  • Placed first baseman Nathaniel Lowe on the Paternity List.
  • Optioned left-handed pitcher Jovani Morán to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Slaten, 27, was placed on the Injured List on June 1 (retroactive to May 29) with right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander made three rehab appearances for Worcester, striking out five batters over 3.0 innings. He has posted a 3.47 ERA (9 ER/23.1 IP) in 24 games for Boston this season. Originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the third round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native owns a 3.09 ERA (27 ER/78.2 IP) with 74 strikeouts in 68 career Major League games, all in relief for the Red Sox (2024-25).

Refsnyder, 34, was placed on the Injured List on August 18 (retroactive to August 15) with a left oblique strain. In 54 games this season, the right-handed hitter has batted .272 (37-for-136) with an .828 OPS. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the fifth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the South Korea native has batted .255 (331-for-1,299) in 525 career Major League games with the Yankees (2015-17), Toronto Blue Jays (2017), Tampa Bay Rays (2018), Texas Rangers (2020), Minnesota Twins (2021), and Red Sox (2022-25).

Lowe, 30, was signed by the Red Sox on August 18, and has hit .296 (8-for-27) with five runs scored and seven RBI in nine games for Boston. Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 13th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Virginia native has batted .263 (776-for-2,945) in 814 career Major League games with the Rays (2019-20), Texas Rangers (2021-24), Washington Nationals (2025), and Red Sox (2025).
