Boston Red Sox completes three roster moves

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox have announced a series of roster moves today:

Placed catcher Connor Wong on the 10-day Injured List due to a left fifth finger fracture.

Recalled catcher Blake Sabol and right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski from Triple-A Worcester.

Designated right-handed pitcher Robert Stock for assignment.

The Red Sox’ 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.

Connor Wong
Wong, 28, has appeared in nine games this season, starting seven behind the plate and going 2-for-23 at the plate. Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has played 294 career games for Boston (2021-25). His versatility includes 231 starts as catcher, seven as designated hitter, six at first base, and one at second base. Wong holds a career batting line of .252 (227-for-902) with 23 home runs, 53 doubles, and 96 RBI.

Blake Sabol
Sabol, 27, has played six games for Triple-A Worcester this season, batting .250 (5-for-20) with two doubles and four RBI. He has made four starts as catcher and two as designated hitter. Acquired from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for international bonus pool space on January 15, 2025, Sabol participated in 11 Grapefruit League games for Boston. The left-handed hitter, originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the seventh round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, appeared in 121 Major League games with the Giants (2023-24). He made 53 starts as catcher and 32 in left field, batting .243 (83-for-342) with 13 home runs and 45 RBI.

Josh Winckowski
Winckowski, 26, has made two appearances for Triple-A Worcester this season, striking out nine across 6.0 innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on 12 hits and one walk. Drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Ohio native has posted a 4.21 ERA (108 earned runs in 230.2 innings) and 186 strikeouts in 115 career Major League games (21 starts) with the Red Sox (2022-24). Since 2023, he has recorded a 3.48 ERA (62 earned runs in 160.1 innings) across 100 big-league games (seven starts).

Robert Stock
Stock, 35, pitched 2.0 innings last night against the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing one run on three hits and one walk. He has appeared in two games (one start) for Triple-A Worcester this season, tossing 8.1 scoreless innings with three walks and 12 strikeouts. Signed by Boston as a minor league free agent on January 15, 2025, Stock pitched in three Grapefruit League games during Spring Training. Selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has compiled a 4.70 ERA (39 earned runs in 74.2 innings) over 56 career Major League games (three starts), playing for the San Diego Padres (2018-19), Red Sox (2020, 2025), Chicago Cubs (2021), and New York Mets (2021).
