Boston Red Sox add right-handed pitcher Luis García to active Major League roster

Club Options Left-Handed Pitcher Bailey Horn to Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today added right-handed pitcher Luis García to the active Major League roster. To make room, the club optioned left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn to Triple-A Worcester.

García, 37, was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, in exchange for four minor league players. The right-hander has pitched in 45 games for the Angels this season, going 5-1 with four saves, a 3.71 ERA (18 ER/43.2 IP), 40 strikeouts, 14 walks, and four home runs allowed. In his last 11 outings (beginning June 21), he has recorded a 0.71 ERA (1 ER/12.2 IP), 0.71 WHIP, and .159 opponent batting average, issuing zero walks in 10 of those 11 outings. Originally signed as an international free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in January 2004, the Dominican Republic native owns a 4.02 ERA (229 ER/512.2 IP) in 530 Major League games (four starts) with the Philadelphia Phillies (2013-18), Angels (2019, ’24), Texas Rangers (2020), St. Louis Cardinals (2021), and San Diego Padres (2022-23).

Horn, 26, has pitched in nine games for Boston this season, his Major League debut. The left-hander has also pitched in nine games for Worcester, posting a 1.69 ERA (3 ER/16.0 IP) with 19 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native was acquired by the Red Sox on April 30, in exchange for cash considerations.
