BALTIMORE, MD – The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have agreed to terms with first baseman Pete Alonso on a five-year Major League contract covering the 2026–2030 seasons.
Alonso, 31, arrives in Baltimore as one of the premier power hitters in the game. A five-time All-Star, 2025 Silver Slugger Award winner, and the 2019 National League Rookie of the Year, he spent seven seasons with the New York Mets. Last year, he posted a .272/.347/.524 slash line (170-for-624) with career highs in hits (170) and doubles (41), while adding 38 home runs, 126 RBI, and appearing in all 162 games. Alonso became the first player in Mets history to play in 162 games twice and has appeared in 416 consecutive contests since 2023—the second-longest active streak in the majors behind Atlanta’s Matt Olson (783).
Alonso cemented his place in Mets history in 2025, becoming the franchise’s all-time home run leader with his 253rd blast on August 12 against Atlanta. He also ranks among the club’s all-time leaders in RBI (712, 3rd), extra-base hits (655, 4th), and runs scored (580, 8th). His 264 career home runs are the ninth-most in Major League history through a player’s first 1,008 games and the third-most through seven seasons, trailing only Ralph Kiner (294) and Albert Pujols (282). Since his debut in 2019, Alonso has driven in an MLB-best 712 runs—33 more than any other player in that span.
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Alonso has been recognized for his character and community impact. He was the Mets’ nominee for the 2021 Roberto Clemente Award and, alongside his wife Haley, founded The Alonso Foundation in 2020. The non-profit supports underserved communities through youth initiatives, animal welfare programs, veteran advocacy, and more.
A native of Tampa, Florida, Alonso was selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Florida. He and his family reside in Tampa with their son.
To make room on the 40-man roster, catcher Maverick Handley has been designated for assignment. The Orioles’ roster remains at 40 players
