Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Caleb Smith has received a 10-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for possessing a foreign substance on his glove at the end of the eighth inning of his Club’s Wednesday, August 18th game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Chase Field. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, made the announcement.
The suspension of Smith had been scheduled to begin tonight, when the D-backs are scheduled to play the host Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. However, Smith has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
