Sidney Crosby Pursues Pittsburgh Penguins’ All-Time Points Record

Sidney Crosby has 1,717 points in 1,379 games played. Projections for point No. 1,724 using Crosby’s:

  • Career P/GP rate: 6 more games (Dec. 18 at OTT)
  • 2025-26 P/GP rate: 7 more games (Dec. 20 at MTL)

Mario Lemieux has been the Penguins’ all-time points leader for nearly 37 years. On Jan. 20, 1989, on the road against the original Jets, Lemieux logged his 636th, 637th and 638th career points (336 GP) to overtake Pittsburgh’s then-assistant coach Rick Kehoe (312-324—636 in 722 GP) as the outright franchise record holder. Crosby was 17 months old at the time.

* Playing at Winnipeg Arena, Lemieux tied Kehoe by opening the scoring and becoming the second player in NHL history to reach 50 goals in a season in less than 45 games (44 GP), behind Wayne Gretzky (2x). Lemieux added two assists during his milestone game, which was less than a month after scoring five goals five different ways and in the midst of his most-productive season – when collected 85 goals114 assists and 199 points despite missing four contests.

* Crosby is set to become the seventh player in the 58-year history of the franchise to be the club’s outright all-time points leader. A detailed list of Pittsburgh’s all-time points leaders is below.

* Crosby is set to become the first player in nearly 25 years to claim the all-time points lead for one of the “Second Six” franchises added to the League during the 1967 NHL Expansion, with Anze Kopitar (LAK) also tracking to achieve the feat before concluding his 20-season career. The last to achieve the feat was Mike Modano, who overtook Neal Broten for the Stars/North Stars record on Feb. 14, 2001. A list covering each of the “Second Six” clubs is below.

* Crosby is set to become the ninth active player to lead a franchise in points, after Alex Ovechkin (WSH), Steven Stamkos (TBL), Mark Scheifele (WPG/ATL), Aleksander Barkov (FLA), Roman Josi (NSH), Jonathan Marchessault (VGK), Jared McCann (SEA) and Clayton Keller (UTA). Scheifele claimed the Jets/Thrashers record Oct. 18 against the Predators.

* Crosby is on pace to pass Lemieux as the franchise’s all-time leader for a major scoring category in three consecutive seasons. Crosby overtook Lemieux as the club’s outright assists leader on Dec. 29, 2024, and is tracking to pass Lemieux for the goals record in 2026-27.

* A few additional notes on Crosby:
