AGCO Flags Missed Red Flags in Player Conduct

  • Patron wagered CAD $2.5 million, losing $230,000 in eight months
  • Losses included $100,000 in the first month alone
  • Player displayed repeated high-stakes betting and escalating losses

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has levied a CAD $105,000 fine against Score Media and Gaming Inc., citing failures to uphold the province’s responsible gambling and player protection standards.

Risky Play Patterns

A regulatory review found that one player on theScore platform wagered CAD $2.5 million and accumulated CAD $230,000 in losses over an eight-month span. The behaviour included frequent high-stakes betting and rapid escalation of losses, raising clear concerns of gambling-related harm.

According to AGCO, the player also made repeated bonus requests and expressed distress to a VIP host—warning signs that should have triggered intervention. Regulators said these were missed opportunities for the operator to step in and mitigate risky play.

Failure to Intervene

AGCO alleges theScore did not conduct meaningful responsible gambling checks, relying instead on the patron’s self-reported income and overlooking inaccurate documentation.

Player protections are a fundamental requirement for any gambling operator looking to conduct business in Ontario,” said Dr. Karin Schnarr, AGCO’s Chief Executive Officer and Registrar. “When operators fail to uphold these critical safer gambling standards, they not only betray the trust of their players but also undermine the integrity of Ontario’s regulated igaming market.”

Score Media and Gaming Inc. has the right to appeal the decision to the Licence Appeal Tribunal.

Broader Industry Crackdown

This fine is the latest in a series of enforcement actions by AGCO:

  • Casino Days – fined $54,000 (July 2025) for allegedly deceptive, high-risk bonus offers
  • BetMGM – fined $110,000 (March 2025) for allegedly offering cash inducements to new players
