NEW YORK, NY – New York City FC today confirmed the transfer of forward Mounsef Bakrar to Croatian club GNK Dinamo Zagreb.

Bakrar joined NYCFC in the summer of 2023 and made a significant impact during his two seasons in the Bronx. The Algerian international featured in 70 matches across all competitions, scoring 10 goals, including a memorable game-winner in the Hudson River Derby last season.

“We’re grateful to Mounsef for his contributions to the Club,” said Sporting Director David Lee. “His energy, professionalism, and commitment were evident from day one. We believe this move back to Europe is the right step for his career, and we wish him continued success in Croatia.”

The transfer marks a return to familiar territory for Bakrar, who previously played in Croatia for NK Istra, where he recorded:

  • 8 goals
  • 3 assists
  • 33 domestic appearances

“Playing for New York City FC has been an incredible experience,” said Bakrar. “From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and supported. I’m proud of the memories we created together and thankful to my teammates, coaches, and the fans. I’ll be cheering for the team from afar and wishing everyone the best for the rest of the season.”
