Boston Red Sox recall RHP Isaiah Campbell from Triple-A Worcester; designate Jorge Alcala for assignment

The Boston Red Sox announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell from Triple-A Worcester. In a corresponding roster move, the club has designated right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala for assignment.

Following the transaction, the Red Sox’s 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.

Isaiah Campbell Returns to Boston Bullpen

Isaiah Campbell, 27, rejoins the Red Sox after making one Major League appearance this season, allowing two runs over 2.0 innings on July 9 vs. the Colorado Rockies. In 34 games for Triple-A Worcester, Campbell has recorded:

  • 7 saves
  • 4.17 ERA (21 ER/45.1 IP)
  • 41 strikeouts

Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft, the Portugal native owns a 5.54 career ERA (23 ER/37.1 IP) with 39 strikeouts across 36 MLB games with Seattle (2023) and Boston (2024–25).

Jorge Alcala Designated for Assignment

Jorge Alcala, 30, was designated for assignment after recording one out in the seventh inning of last night’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Since being acquired from the Minnesota Twins on June 11, Alcala has posted:

  • 3.31 ERA (6 ER/16.1 IP)
  • 19 appearances for Boston

A native of the Dominican Republic, Alcala was originally signed by the Houston Astros as an international free agent in 2014. Over his career, he has compiled a 4.24 ERA (96 ER/204.0 IP) in 185 MLB games with Minnesota (2019–25) and Boston (2025).
