Ottawa REDBLACKS add DL Erick Black to Practice Roster, release OL Dayton Black

OTTAWA – The Ottawa REDBLACKS have added American defensive lineman Erick Black to their practice roster, the team announced Tuesday. The move strengthens Ottawa’s defensive depth as they continue to evaluate talent midseason.

Erick Black Joins REDBLACKS Defensive Unit
Erick Black, a Rochester, New York native, most recently spent time with the Saskatchewan Roughriders during the 2025 preseason. In 2024, he appeared in two games for Saskatchewan and also played two games for the Edmonton Elks, where he recorded:

  • 4 defensive tackles
  • 2 special teams tackles
    Black played his final collegiate season at Stony Brook University in 2022, appearing in 11 games and posting:
  • 19 total tackles
  • 7 tackles for loss
  • 5 sacks
    Prior to Stony Brook, Black spent four seasons at the University at Buffalo, where he compiled:
  • 36 total tackles
  • 8 tackles for loss
  • 5.5 sacks
  • 2 forced fumbles
  • 2 fumble recoveries
  • 29 games played
    Known for his explosiveness off the edge and ability to disrupt the backfield, Black brings developmental upside and special teams value to Ottawa’s defensive front.

REDBLACKS Release OL Dayton Black
In a corresponding roster move, the REDBLACKS have released National offensive lineman Dayton Black. The Canadian lineman had been part of Ottawa’s depth chart but will now explore opportunities elsewhere in the CFL.
