France’s gambling regulator, L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), has announced a leadership transition as Pauline Hot steps into the role of Director General, succeeding Rémi Lataste, who is departing to take on a similar position at Campus Condorcet.
Pauline Hot Takes the Helm at ANJ
Hot’s appointment marks a significant step in the ANJ’s leadership evolution. A graduate of both the prestigious École Normale Supérieure and the École Nationale d’Administration, Hot brings a strong background in public administration and regulatory affairs.
Before joining the ANJ, she served as an auditor and later as master of requests at France’s Council of State. She joined the ANJ in January 2025 as Deputy Director General, and her promotion reflects the regulator’s confidence in her leadership and vision.
Rémi Lataste Reflects on His Tenure
Outgoing Director General Rémi Lataste leaves the ANJ after five impactful years. In his farewell remarks, Lataste described his time at the helm as a “formidable collective adventure,” highlighting the regulator’s achievements in:
- Strengthening protections for minors and vulnerable players
- Cracking down on illegal gambling operators
- Advancing market reforms and responsible gambling initiatives
“A huge thank you to everyone—both within the ANJ and among our institutional partners—who made these last five years equally passionate and productive.”
— Rémi Lataste, Outgoing Director General, ANJ
ANJ Releases New Activity Report
Coinciding with the leadership change, the ANJ has published its latest activity report, offering a comprehensive look at the evolution of France’s gambling landscape five years after major regulatory reforms.
Key Highlights:
- Compliance Improvements: Licensees have made notable progress in meeting anti-money laundering (AML) and responsible gambling obligations.
- Rise in Self-Exclusion: The number of self-excluded players has increased significantly—an indicator of both improved visibility of support tools and a potential rise in at-risk behavior.
The report underscores the ANJ’s commitment to fostering a safer, more transparent gambling environment in France.
What’s Next for the ANJ?
With Pauline Hot now leading the regulatory body, the ANJ is expected to continue its focus on:
- Strengthening consumer protections
- Enhancing market transparency
- Collaborating with stakeholders to adapt to emerging challenges in digital gambling
Hot’s legal and regulatory expertise positions her to guide the ANJ through its next phase of strategic development.
