LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced a roster move, activating veteran left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw while optioning right-hander Ryan Loutos to the minors. To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers placed Blake Snell on the 60-day injured list.
Kershaw, 37, is set to make his season debut tonight, marking the start of his 18th season with the club. The 2014 National League MVP completed five rehab starts, recording a 1-0 record with a 2.57 ERA in 21 innings. Throughout his illustrious 17-year MLB career, Kershaw has compiled a 212-94 record, maintaining a 2.50 ERA with 2,968 strikeouts. He is now just 32 strikeouts away from becoming the 20th pitcher in MLB history to reach the 3,000-strikeout milestone. A cornerstone of the Dodgers’ pitching staff, he was originally drafted seventh overall in the 2007 MLB Draft out of Highland Park High School (TX).
Loutos, 26, pitched last night, allowing two runs over one inning. The right-hander was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals on May 1 in exchange for cash considerations. Since making his MLB debut in 2024, Loutos has appeared in three major league games without allowing a run. Over five seasons in the minors, he has accumulated a 4.75 ERA, striking out 249 batters across 223.2 innings. He originally signed with the Cardinals in 2021 as an undrafted free agent.
With Kershaw’s return, the Dodgers will look to strengthen their rotation as they push forward in the 2025 season.
