Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director Henry Williams has announced the appointment of Jim Ananich, from Flint, as the new Chair of the Michigan Gaming Control Board by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Ananich’s term began on 25 April 2025, succeeding Linda Forte, whose tenure has concluded. He will serve until 31 December 2028 and represent the Democratic Party on the Board. The appointment is pending advice and consent from the Michigan Senate.

“Jim Ananich is a proven leader with a long-standing commitment to public service and the people of Michigan,” said Henry Williams, Executive Director of the MGCB. “His legislative expertise, strategic vision, and collaborative leadership make him an outstanding choice to guide the Board in its mission to uphold the integrity of gaming in Michigan.”

Ananich currently serves as President and CEO of the Greater Flint Health Coalition and lectures on state and local government at the University of Michigan-Flint. He brings a wealth of experience from previous roles, including Michigan Senate Minority Leader, State Representative, and Flint City Council President.

Beginning his career as a high school social studies teacher, Ananich holds a bachelor’s degree in political economy from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from the University of Michigan. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

Henry Williams expressed gratitude for Linda Forte’s tenure as Chair, stating, “On behalf of the Board and staff, I want to thank Linda Forte for her exemplary leadership and dedicated service. Her stewardship has been crucial in navigating the evolving gaming landscape and enhancing our focus on responsible gaming.”

The Michigan Gaming Control Board consists of five Michigan residents appointed by the Governor, with one designated as chairperson. Per the Michigan Gaming Control & Revenue Act, no more than three members can belong to the same political party. A quorum of three members is required for official Board business.

Ananich joins current Board members Joni M. Thrower Davis, Mark Evenson, Deidre A. Lambert-Bounds, and Andrew T. Palms in leading the Board forward. The next public meeting will take place on Tuesday, 13 May 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Cadillac Place in Detroit.
